We have a garage queen 2005 VW Beetle 1.8T convertible that my wife takes out only when the weather is perfect. Anyway, I want to clean and protect the fabric top, so I'm wondering which system is best -- RaggTopp or 303? Thanks!

I think Ragtopp is the way to go

isn't 303 AP for vinyl? They may have a convertible top product but I'm pretty sure it even says on the bottle not to use aerospace on convertible tops...

Thanks for the input so far.
303 makes a fabric top cleaner and a fabric protectant. I read on another forum that 303 lasted longer than RaggTopp -- any first hand experiences?

I've only used Raggtopp the one time for my buddy's 911 cabrio last summer and it was still beading when he came over to do his spring detail

of course, that's not saying much since it has all of 3K on it. And it's an '07 haha

RaggTopp is a great formula, but the aerosol makes a mess and is harder to control the application. I use the 303 for that reason. I pour the 303 Fabric Guard into a small glass and paint it on with a paint brush. No need to cover up anything or worry about it getting on windows or seals. Plus, you can apply it more evenly this way IMHO.

both offer great results and have many fans ...

Thanks! I'm leaning toward 303 for that very reason. I read somewhere that a paint roller is also a great way to apply it.

What did you use to clean the top?

303 Aerospace for vinyl
303 Fabric protector for Fabric

I've only used 303 and whenever i wash the top i'm always impressed with the beading,303 makes some great products.

the raggtopp I have is not aerosol btw...

the sprayer is crap though. I put mine into an old QD bottle so I get a fine even mist

I have to vote for Raggtopp. I have a 2002 Ford Thunderbird and a 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK550 Cabriolet. Each has a fabric top. I have used the RaggTopp cleaner and fabric protectant on both cars, since they were new. The cleaner removes dirt and prevents mildew and the protectant repels water. Both tops look as good as the day the cars were delivered. I haven't tried 303, but it is hard to imagine a better product than the RaggTopp combo.

303 High Tech Fabric Guard for protection

I have used both

Whatever you choose applying 2-3 thin coats to a completely clean and dry surface is the key. Allow to dry 15-20 minutes in the sun between each coat or an hour or so in the garage between coats.

Allow final coat to dry for as long as possible. It must be completely dry before the first rain to get max. benefit.

Not as thrilled with the 303 cleaner....

The raggtop I used was aerosol. It was about 40 months ago and they had not released the non aerosol version yet. When I went to my first Detailfest I shared my experience with them about the aerosol version and they mentioned they were coming out with a non aerosol version. I have not had the pleasure of using the non-aerosol.

Has anybody tried megiuars top cleaner, canvas cleaner or APC on their fabric top?

I've never used the Megs product. As for APC, it can be used but is unnecessarily string for lightly soiled tops. Using something like 303 Multi-Surface or the Ragg Top fabric cleaner is safer and will probably do the job on all but the dirtiest of tops.

I know this is an old thread but this may add help to someone in the future. Nick turned me on to RaggTopp and i love it. Done several cars with it and here is a pic of a C7 Z06.

I've used both. 303 hands down.

I've used both. My preference is 303. You can't go wrong with either one though. Both bead water the same. Both keep the top looking new. Try one, try the other. Decide for yourself which one you prefer, because like I said both work very well.
