So I left yesterday morning at 7 am and was driving straight through to fort lauderdale. At 330 am I knew I was running low but forgot not all gas stations carry diesel...before I could find a station I ran out....will cone to find out diesels aren't easy to start after you run them dry. I had the 'road rangers' come out and they gave me 5 gallons but it still don't start. I ran my batteries down and they left because his shift was up.

Im reading you need 15 gallons to prime the systen...I guess I need to figure out what I'm going to do...I honestly think I'm just going to take a nap in the back of the van because I've been up and driving now for 24 hours...lol too bad this didn't happen 20 miles ago I could've Hung out at autogeek today....I'm a few min down the road from the shop lol.

Moral of the story I'm an idiot lol

Got enough gas now I need to get the batteries charged! Makin progress haha.

Sometimes it's hard to re-start diesel engines after running out of fuel. It's called air-locked. Cranking away trying for re-starts can be not only frustrating, but potentially damaging to the engine and its components.

You more than likely will also have to bleed the fuel system to eliminate any air that has entered. Your owners manual should point to the bleed valves' location(s) and their proper usage. There may even be a hand priming pump lever to pump fuel through the system.

Pouring some diesel into the fuel filter close to fuel pump or tank may help once any air in the system has been bled. Hope you don't have to crack open the injector lines! Or have to have it towed to the nearest diesel service center.

Good luck. Get a filling breakfast somewhere; and, don't forget to try to keep your van a little more on the filled-up side of the fuel gauge from now on, also.

Yea I'm starving but I'm not leaving the van. I'm waiting for Ford to call me back and I'm trying to figure how I'm going to get up to the parts store to charge the batteries.

On a ford 6.0 or 6.4 you have a filter up on the motor and one down on the frame rail. At the minium you have to refill the top filter. It is a cannister type and is easy to fill. The one on the frame sits on its side and can not be filled.Ford dosen't have a pump like some of the Cummins or Cats do. Running em dry sucks.

Make a sign that says ":help: I need a boost" and tape it to the back of your van

I said a prayer for you

Your prayer has helped I have a buddy coming. I'm going to pull the dog house and fill the bowl then where going to charge the batteries.

Good luck ! Be safe. Lot of drivers out there that don't pay attention to things on the side of the road..

Good luck man...please be safe! You might as well wait until AG opens and stop by and say hi. Pick me up some stuff too and then make your way to VA! LOL!

I'm no mechanic nor do I know a lot about diesels. But a buddy of mine had his dumpster truck run out of fuel a few weeks back. I went and picked up 5 gallons of fuel for him but he still couldn't get it started. He ended up having to get some starter fluid and spray it into the air filter housing to get it to start up. Once it turned over he had no issues.

That being said you still need you batteries to be charged so you can turn it over.

Yea I plan on picking up a bottle at store.

If AG is open wed I plan on stopping by;)

When all else fails, pray

Why are you rolling around with a dog house in your van?
