Re-discovering old gems

What's an older product that you recently re-discoverd? For me its TW Ice Seal and Shine. This stuff was the rage oh I'd guess around 2018... then a little later, maybe like 2020 all the spray ceramics came out and everyone forgot About SnS.

I just used some last weekend, and wow is it slick, deep and glossy.

And that made me grab a couple of old friends, OCW and Megs Ultimate Spray Wax. maybe I'm having feelings for that carnauba glow again???

Great question! I'm on that journey right now too. I have two:

1. CarPro ECH2O. It never really left my cabinet, but it went from being my go-to for QD duty and after-wash wipe downs, to just occasional QD duty for bird bombs and random smudges. Not long ago, I used it again after a wash and really liked how it looked on my blue car. Moreso than the topper spray I was hapily using at the time. Once that topper runs out, I'll go back to using ECHO2 exclusively.
2. Duragloss 253. I used this stuff long ago and loved it but then decided to branch out and try other stuff people talked about. This weekend I was grumbling about my current tire dressing choice I'm too cheap to throw out and made a decision to go back to something I really like.

Oh wow. It's embarrassing. I realize I got back into the hobby full spend.

Just today I was clearing room and found some random stuff. Mostly duplicates after really liking them the first time. Tec Brake-R, Pinnacle Ceramic Mist, Griot's Surface Prep, Griot's Speed Shine and 3-in-1 Ceramic Wax, Wolfgang Si02 and their polishes + glaze. These are all the things that probably caused me to buy new products thinking it got easier/better. Should've known to wait it out and finish the old.

Last wash I dusted off Polishangel stuff for the heck of it and was sad to see how much money was just sitting there unused.

This summer is a no spend summer (minus the new power washer, polisher, and whole home water upgrade I already did).

Whatever happened to Polish Angel? People used to mention it alot but I haven’t heard anything about that brand in a very long time. Almost forgot it ever existed.

Also, “leather balm” seems to have been a short lived fad.

I used Collinite 845 on the Qashqai a few months back, still a great product, and the application process and reveal when buffing off is a joy. I also applied a 10 year old sealant to the FJ, finished it off as well. Made the last wash ridiculously easy, despite having been off road. The product was Energise Crystal Seal which may not have ever made it over there, but it was the predecessor of NV Jet and Lustre.

Whatever happened to Polish Angel? People used to mention it alot but I haven’t heard anything about that brand in a very long time. Almost forgot it ever existed.

Polishangel is the epitome of a German company. Makes total sense they're in Bavaria to add a twist. They seem to be cleaning up things but nothing major out of them really. I think a revamp of a few products and a few new intros is all they've added into the market for some time now. I presume "why fix what isn't broken" is life at PA. The almost weekly sales have definitely gone away. Their new marketing efforts are a subtle change in their biweekly emails.

I used the Pinnacle Leather Balm not long ago for the hell of it... with some PA leather stuff (Bella?) ironically enough. The wife's reviews were glowing later that day so I called it a day after the balm.

Was lucky enough to grab two of these at Wally World at the clearance price of $10. The only product I’ve used on my 2 vehicles in about 10 years. I get on average about 8 to 12 months, before I have to reapply.
Why would they discontinue probably the best product they ever produced.

Agreed, its a shame I never got a hold of that stuff. I guess they figured they wouldn't sell much if it lasted that long.

The problem with it (Turtle Wax Endura-Shine Tire Coat Kit) was it was black, so if you got some on the wheel and didn't wipe it off right away...it was very difficult to get off. After that happened to me, I relegated it to the backs of the tires. Yes, some of us are crazy and dress the backs of the tires, I only do it when I'm rotating tires, I give the back of the wheel and the tire a good cleaning.

It hasn’t been the only tire coating with a black tint/dye or whatever the correct term for it is, right? I can’t confirm with 100% certainty, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t That unique. I think Dura Coating Tire Coating might be similar in that it’s tinted black, but I could also be completely wrong because now that I think about it the Dura Coating is possibly safe to coat white lettered tires but I’m not 100% sure.

I could also be thinking of the Turtle Wax Endura Trim Coating when I’m recalling a black tinted product that was similar.

As far as getting it on wheels and it being very hard to remove, I found that a melamine sponge aka Magic Eraser is capable of removing the Endura Tire Coating off of wheels with relative ease, you just have to keep in mind that you’re taking a melamine sponge to the finish of your wheels when you’re doing so, but I’ve done it a handful of times without causing harm.

I’m surprised to hear that might’ve caused you to stop using it because those of us who were fortunate enough to experience the Endura almost all agree that it was the best tire product that was ever created. I’m willing to die on that hill.

Is the Mr Cartoon stuff the same way?

No. The Mr. Cartoon was a white liquid, almost with the consistency of Elmers Glue but not nearly as thick. The residue from the Mr. Cartoon would eventually dry clear on the flip top, but at the same time it wouldn’t completely dry, rather it would nearly dry while maintaining some bit of elasticity.

It was an interesting tire coating and worth keeping around, but not in the same league as the Endura. It was bearly playing the same sport.

Totally agree. In my almost 50 years or detailing I've never found another product that could match it.

Collinite 845 is a hall of fame product. Been using it for probably 30 years. Maybe the best combo ever is Jescar topped with Collinite. There will always be a bottle in my arsenal.

I've always thought waxes, Collinite 845 in particular, suit non-metallic white and red really well. Without the metallic pop, wax seems to make white and red so glossy that it glows. Both pictured are right after applying a single layer of 845, no stacking.

After heading down the SiO2 spray sealant path, then into ceramic coatings, I've made a return to an old favourite, Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant.









I remember after I first used it; while washing the car I had a family friend ask what I had used on the paint, the water beading behaviour caught his attention. On separate occasion, a work colleague spotted the car downtown, he knew it was mine "because it was glowing". Back then, online stores were in their infancy, so you basically used whatever was available at the automotive chain stores, Meguiar's, Turtle Wax, Mothers. Access to specialty products was difficult, certainly not an obscure American brand like Wolfgang.









Sadly, Wolfgang has been discontinued by the local importer. I know there are probably better LSP's out there, but there was a charm to this product.

I think you'll find the Jescar product to be similar.

I really liked 845 on my black metallic cars too...right up until I discovered coatings.

While I like loved the look of 845, I've become addicted to the hydrophobic properties and durability of coatings. I might go back to it if I ever reach the point of having a seasonal/part time use car.
