Yesterday I received a new 3" Griots polisher combo kit that I ordered here on Autogeek.net. The kit I ordered was the following GR11122 which included the following

  1. 1 3” Griots Buffer
  2. 2 3” Blue Buffing Pads
  3. 2 3” Tangerine Buffing pads
  4. 2 3” Red Polishing Pads
  5. 1 Backing Plate for the 3” pads
  6. 2 Microfiber cloths
Everything arrived on time as expected. WhenI opened the box and checked the contents i see the 6 pads and they seemed small. They are the same size as the backing plate. I was under the impression that the pad had to be slightly larger than the backing plate as to not damage the vehicle if the pad is not centered 100%. I have requested information from customer service and provided pictures for them to review. Can someone please advise. I have attached picture with the pad that shows that the pad doesn't go past the backing plate

Wasn't there a backing plate already on the polisher or in the box with the polisher?

Yes. The backing plate was supplied was a Lake Country 2.75" hook and loop as part of the kit configured by Autogeek.net.

And that's the backing plate in your picture? If it's 2.75 why can't I see the pad? I have a GG 3" and it comes with a Griot's backing plate either in the box or installed on the unit already, that is the right size for the Griot's 3" pads.

PS My backing plate doesn't look like that, it's all yellow on the back.

the GG3 should come with a backing plate in a sealed bag...

The pad is the exact same size as the backing plate. If it is centered 100% on the backing plate you can not see it. I explained this in my email to customer service and Penny responded that with precision detailing the pad can be this way. I resent the email and attached pictures from their site. I hope Megan or Nick see this.

Backing was in a sealed bag in the sealed box with the polisher. The issue is not the backing plate but the pads are not the right size. The pads need to be 3" not 2.75"

If the backing plate sticks out pass the pad, then yes it's a potential problem with no room for error if used...

The pictures are with the pad attached.
