Hi guys,

I figure someone here must have experience with refinishing OEM wheels.

Well, I had these AMG Monoblock 18inch wheels refinished, straightened and repainted to look like OEM with a polished lip.

They looked AMAZING and I was damn happy...for the first couple of months.

I took a power washer to the wheels though and the second I did that, the clear got cut off on one of the wheels! I went to the guy to see what was up, and he said he'd redo the wheel but that I need to be careful with the clear because it's 'sensitive' and it may happen again.

Well since then I waxed all of the wheels, clean them at least once a week and STILL I see chipping of the lips. It's been like 3 months since, and I've done nothing but take care of the wheels like babies and they still chip.

He said that his next idea is to paint a thin coat of paint of silver on the lip to have the clear stick to something.

But that defeats having a polished lip, right? Does anyone have any tips or ideas? Does this guy just not know? I've never heard of this ever happening before aka clear that has trouble 'sticking' to a polished lip....

I did.

Even without it, it still is chipping. I even waxed the whole wheels including the lips and it chips. I hand wash each wheel...and it still chips.
