Hi

How can I remove 3M double sided mounting tape from my car (Foam type)? It was used to mount the plates. The car is Cqaurtzed and has protective film on the front end. The front plates are mounted on the protective film. The plates on the page are mounted on the body (that is Cquartz). I want to remove the plates and mount Euro-style ones. So plate damage isn't much of an issue. I don't want to damage the coating or the film.

Thank you

Maybe warm it up with a hair dryer and carefully remove it.

Spray 1 concentrated squirt of either TarX or 3M adhesive remover onto a microfiber tip using your finger and just let it sit around the tape for 30 seconds. Catch any runoff with the rest of the towel; then take a plastic razor blade and it should come off like butter. If you have 2 sets of hands, have your partner heat it on low with a heat gun for 45 seconds.

A hair blow dryer will work.

Here's using a heat gun to remove letters off a Mercedes-Benz

Carefully removing the vinyl letters using a Heat Gun...

I just used my thumbnail to carefully scrape the softened letters off the paint and then wiped the area down using Xenit by Stoners to remove the sticky residue.

You really have to be careful with a heat gun but with a hair blow dryer you're pretty safe.

After you get all the adhesive off, apply a light polish or paint cleaner to really get the surface clean and then seal with a wax, sealant or coating.

:)

Dental Floss to cut foam tape, soak area in tar remover or APC remove with MF towel. Polish with finishing polish and done.

IMHO and experience a Heat gun on clear film is a risky deal. I have used steam and heat guns to remove clear film.
