Yes you read it right

I have a client that has had a car battery floating around thier trunks and it has leaked

They are wondering if i can remove that, i responded by letting them know i will do some research and get back to them

So how would you all sugest trying to attack this, or do i let him know it would probably be best to toss and find a new trunk carpet from the junk yard

I have a little green machine shampooer if that helps any,

Baking soda does great to clean acid off batterires. I cant say if it will save carpet. Kinda doubt it.

If the BA hasn't eaten through the carpet it certainly has weaken it. I would be more concern with the sheet metal in the trunk.

Baking soda<<<:props:

Baking soda and water will neutralize the acid. BUT:
You need to take the carpet out ASAP!!!:

^^^I agree!!^^^
Battery acid in a trunk is a sheet metal hole waiting to happen.

Once the carpet is out:
-Use/place the baking soda/paste as a balm on the affected areas until the paste dries. Don't scrub.
-Hose it off...Check for damages.
-If the carpet-fibers have not been totally compromised...
Use a solution of regular dish/carpet cleaners to dab on the affected areas with old bath/terry towels.
-Hose off...let carpet dry...check for staining.
-Repeat cleaning steps if necessary.

***Warning***

If you're going to do this acid-removal task:

Wear PPE at all times...
Especially acid-proof gloves, and eye protection.

Try the real thing. Coca Cola works great to dissolve the battery acid crud

I spilled some in my old truck, the carpet was toast. I put baking soda on it and it cleaned up okay. But ate up all of the carpet fibers where it was.

Acid vs Acid...
-Around battery terminals/battery cases...I suppose.
-But for carpet-cleaning??

:dunno:

My mom has one of those Total Gym machines, and apparently the batteries in it corroded and some battery acid leaked out of it and onto the carpet (this was on light colored carpet in the house). Left a nice size pinkish colored spot on the carpet. I sprayed some Folex (diluted 1:1) on the spot, let it sit for 30 seconds to a minute, agitated with a nylon carpet brush, and then took a microfiber towel to it. Cleaned it right up, and now there's hardly a trace of it to be seen. Unless you knew where to look and what you were looking for, you'd never know there was ever a stain there.
