Hey guys,

What's the recommended method for removing dried up polish on the surface paint that has dried up. This is predominantly around the edges around the sunroof, door ttip , but still on paint and not on any vinyl or plastic. I plan on washing, claying, and sealing my paint for the upcoming winter season but I would like to remove some old left over polish residue before I do this

Thanks guys

I usually wipe off old, dried polish and/or wax with a microfiber towel slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

Would I was the car and then do an IPA wipedown? Also, it seems as though using alcohol on car paint isn't the best for it, is there a better alternative such as maybe claying it again after a wash?

If it's polish and not wax, then a diluted version of Meguiars Rinse Free Express Wash (D114) is excellent when used with a microfiber. If it's been on there a while, then you may need to step it up to a diluted IPA.

Hey jarred, thanks so much doe the tip. Is there an alternative that might be available on eshine.ca as they don't sell the meguiars free rinse?

Thanks again

I use a fingernail covered by a MF towel to get into the little cracks and crevices and if need be, I'll use a bit of quik detailer to soften the dried wax.

Don,
Would you just agitate the MF towel with your fingernail until it is gone? Would you step it up to IPA wipe down if it doesn't work? And after you let it soften for a while, would you then proceed to wash the car?

I don't really like doing an IPA wipe down, no reason, it's just not my thing. If using the fingernail in the towel trick doesn't work, I'll move on to a soft (or well used, no good for teeth anymore) toothbrush and the QD. There are all sorts of "tools" (Q-tips, cotton balls, horse or boar's hair brushes etc) you can use to get in those tight areas, just make sure you use plenty of lubrication (soap or QD) to help prevent scratching. THEN after getting that done, I would wash the car to flush out all the gunk I removed from where I was working.

I would not recommend using a tooth brush on any painted automotive surface.

A little QD spray on a MF Towel has always done it for me. If it's really old and dried on pretty hard, I might have to rub at it a bit, but most of the time the product comes right off.

Sorry it took me a while to respond back, but if you don't have access to Meguiars Rinse Free Express, a little quick detailer on a MF should be helpful and still less aggressive than an IPA wipe down.

I'm pretty sure Meguiars rinseless wash is sold on Autogeek store page. Because I ordered some myself from here.
