Removing Old Pinstriping

So, we recently purchased a 2005 4Runner as a third vehicle. Love it and I'm about to get to work on the paint, however, while most of the pinstriping is gone, there is still a bit that needs to be removed. What products and techniques should I use to remove what's left?

Heat gun and plastic razor blades.

Then clean and polish afterward.
 
There are special rubber attachment wheels made from a rubber that can be attached to a cordless drill that work just fine for removing pinstripe without a risk of damage to the paint. You'd likely find such attachments at an auto paint supply house.

They usually range in price at around $12-$15, some are a bit more but all basically will do the exact same job.

Usually setting the drill on the slower setting works fine.

I think 3M makes one, and believe Norton does too.
 
Yep what was said above. Try heat and plastic razor first. If that doesnt work the pinstripe removal tool can even go in a drill works great. Just dont hold it in one spot to long it will burn thru the paint. I work at a sign shop and i remove those all the time. Fastest method is the removal tool. It makes a lot of mess but so much faster.

I try to avoid using the plastic razor blade my self ,,I heat the entire stripe up and pick the edge up with my nail and then pull,,I can usually get the whole stripe to come if I get get the pull speed and angle correct and then I move on to the next section.
After I finish removing all the pinstripe I go around with adhesive remover and remove the glue,,if everything goes smooth the entire process takes me 15 to 20 minutes.
 
So after spending several hours on this yesterday I can say without hesitation it’s going to fight me until the end. I used plastic razor blades and a heat gun and while I got about half of it off the other half is really putting up a fight. The heat gun didn’t seem to always do much. The best results seem to just come with kind of picking away at it with the blades. The pinstriping is very old and hard, however there was one section that I was actually able to peel up and that was absolutely appreciated! Any residual residue was simply rubbed/wiped off with Goo Gone.

Guess I’ll fight this until the end. Frustrating lol.

Yep thats when the removal tool works wonders. I could tell from the pic it wasnt gonna be nice to remove. But keep at it and u will get it
