I recently went on a vacation and while traveling through one of the states I crossed over a just painted white line on the road way. I have tried a few things and have not been able to get the white paint off my black truck. Anyone have any suggestions for removing road paint from exterior of paint and plastic trim?

Had this happen to me once. This kid my idiot boss hired took off down the road in the work truck with an open gallon of blue paint on the tailgate at lunchtime ahead of all of us. Unbeknownst to me. Anyway.........

Clay and/or plastic razor blade for the paint.

Toothbrush/vinyl cleaner for the plastic.

And you STILL find little spots for weeks to come.

I use acetone and a microfiber towel and work it off with that combo. I don't like acetone on my paint but have to say I've used it for extreme cases like road paint. I make sure I FULLY wash whatever the acetone was used on to make sure there's no residual left. I recently used it on a wheel well and it worked like a charm.

Paul, try 3M's general purpose adhesive cleaner. It is clear coat safe.

Thanks Paul! I have heard of that and have yet to try it. Plus it sounds safer than acetone.

No problem, brother. Sorry I can't give a link, but my computer is from the Kennedy administration. Lol

Thanks to everyone on the options. I'm going to start on this tomorrow and will reply on what works.

Had that happened to my MGA. Yellow road paint on red!

Painter who painted my car told me to use paint reducer w/ rag. doesn't hurt the paint...

Try using Goof Off Pro Strength Remover. It takes off road paint in a couple of wipes. Citrus based. Best thing that I have tried without resorting to the volatile solvents

Ive heard Citrol Degreaser will remove pretty much anything, even from plastics. Might want to give it a try.

I havent tried getting the road paint off my wifes Suburban, she didnt tell me about it until it had already sat there for over a week. Im not sure i can get it off now without some serious abrasives.

That Goof Off Pro Strength Remover removed yellow road paint from a used BWW 3231 wagon I purchased this spring. Owner said that the paint has been on there for several years.

I was truly amazed at how well it works.

In the past I have tried the goof off and the Stoners Citrus Mold release, and finally purchased a can of 3M Adhesive remover (mainly to be used for wheel weight adhesive). Did a car last week and noticed paint on the lower rocker as well as in the plastic wheel well. Grabbed for the 3M and it removed everything in no time flat. I will always have it on my stash from now on.

There is more than one Goof Off product. Make sure it is the Goof Off Pro Strength Remover aerosol spray can. I get mine at AZ.
