Hi all,

Any ideas for removing tree sap from a 04 Mustang vinyl convertible top?

So far I've tried 50/50 IPA mix, straight IPA which didn't do anything and what has worked the best so far, Stoner Tarminator which took off most of the sap but still left a very visible but much more faint outline of where the sap was.

Here is a picture after the Tarminator, not sure how well it will show up but the remaining sap stain is directly in the middle of the photo

Thanks!!

If you were here in fla I would lacquer that top,you can't spot lacquer that cause you will have a bright clean white spot. The whole top needs to be done evenly by a pro who knows how to do it,this is a old school method which a lot of guys don't know anything about it,and I know guys will see this and say omg lacquer is he crazy, but done hundreds of times and with regular soft vinyl tops like Cadillacs back in the day.so I really don't have a solution for you,you can start by apc and bleach the top and see where it gets you sorry.

If you are gonna clean it with apc and bleach use it separate ,try scrubbing it a little .or buy a dedicated top cleaner it may lightened up a little good luck.

Hey thanks for the reply. I was thinking of trying paint thinner but then thought just as you said there would be a few super clean spots and it would stand out haha! I forgot to add, tried APC as well and it didn't touch the sap either

Yeah, you kinda have a problem there hope you find a solution good luck.

Do you have access to a hot water pressure washer? Hot water works well on paint for sap... I would stay away from bleach, it may turn yellow.

Bleach won't turn that top yellow,I only give advice on experience not on a speculation.

Hot water pressure directly on sap mark, will remove the sap for sure and take the top with it.hot water will not do any thing for the sap that is left lingering after he removed most of it,he has a promblem here that I can fix,and don't recommend my method for him to do it.It takes experience in years of top cleaning all kinds of material safely.
