Removing water spots with the aid of a polisher

A friend of mine asked me (and I didn't know how to properly answer it) if he could use a rotary or a DA to remove water spots; not with polishing compounds, but using water spot remover like Spotless, Stoner, Meguiar's #47 and similar products.
I got curious as well, never thought of that.
Is there anybody out there who could enlighten me?

Interesting idea. I don't know how to properly answer it other than say start of with a finishing pad and perform a test spot.

In theory a finishing pad combined with say Spotless should provide what is needed without scouring the finish in the way a polishing pad could/would.

Let us know how it goes.
 
on paint or glass? are the spots so etched in that a vinegar solution isn't working?
 
Those solution you had mentioned work great for above surface water marks. If the water marks are etched into the paint the you will have to abraid the surface with a polish or compound to level the paint to remove the water mark or etching.

As it has always been said start with the least aggressive method and move up if you have to.
 
Thanks, guys. The original question my friend asked me is about polishing glass, since he was having trouble removing water spots etched to a glass roof.

I usually polish glass with medium density pad and Menzerna 2500 or 4000, but I was afraid of suggesting it to him, since I don't know his polishing abilities, would he put too much pressure/speed and leave tiny speckles as a result.

His question made me think about other possible solutions, like the use of rayon pad and water spot remover, or mixing spritzes of water spot remover with something like Menzerna 4000 and a medium density pad.

I will try to find a guinea pig and try couple odd combos to see how it goes.
 
Try with ceriglass and rayón pads from carpro

And by hand i fold one pad for the corners
 
I know it says it's on backorder, but maybe something like this will help. I got it yesterday as part of my "free stuff" on my order, so I'm going to try it on our sunroof which has been etched a little...

I don't think AG sells these anymore, but there are other alternatives with specific compounds used to remove the etchings of water spots from glass with cerium oxide

CarPro Ceriglass Kit, glass polish, water spot remover

Perhaps try something like that?
