i have a coat of wax at the moment on my car. i am going to compound and polish it. would i need to remove the wax and if so what should i use. i also wash it with a 1600psi pressure washer but the car still beads. i though pressure washer remove wax.

My personal opinion is no - you don't have to remove your wax, since claying / compounding / polishing does that for you.

Others prefer to remove the wax, in which case you would use something like Dawn or a citrus wash.

Clay or compound removes wax.. Use the KISS system. Really no need for too many steps..

Just to chime in...

If a compound or polish is abrasive enough to remove paint it's more than powerful enough to remove any previously applied car wax or paint sealant.

:)

Mike: since there are waxes with filling capabilities and we want to check the real status of the paint before we polish it, shouldn't we strip any protective layer so that we can make an as good as possible assessment?

btw, a pressure washer does not remove wax, who in the world told you that information????!!! wax gets removed by abrasive action or a chemical action abrasive action meaning washing your car(yes anything that touches your paint is an abrasive action imo) chemical action would be using a product that removes waxes and such. wash, clay, polish, seal and you are done.

my two cents..if you use the pressure washer to clean your vehicle you do not want to have it no more then 1400 PSI or else you may inflict damage that may cost you a few dollars to fix.

witchdoc, where did you hear a pressure washer of higher then 1400psi can inflict damage? for the first thing it depends on the type of nozzle you are using, secondly with each foot of hose you lose pressure, and then it traveling through the lance and such you lose more pressure so pressure at the tip wont be 1400psi or whatever the pressure washer states.also, we don put that much pressure to the paint, you are supposed to stay a certain distance away using the correct nozzle size... if your using the red nozzle and cut through your door, its nobody's fault but your own for not reading the directions!. and sure you need to be carefull if car was repainted but honestly if it was repainted that badly that washing it removes it, they got stiffed for sure on their paint job....but you also have to ask questions to the customer....
