Hello Everyone!

I am meeting up with some of my band members to start practicing again. I have everything I need except my bass bag, the zipper broke and the wheel broke off too. So was hoping some of you handy individuals could help me on repairing it myself as opposed to taking the bag to get repaired. I'm sure I could just go to Upton Bass and they would more than gladly help me out. Except they are out of state.

The bass is in awesome shape, just my travel bag for it is not. So would like to see if any of you have any ideas on how to repair it, the wheel specifically.

I have been thinking of just taking it to the cleaners, since they do some button repairs and small sewing for the zipper.

However, the wheel part is what has me more stumped.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'll probably call Upton Bass and see what they recommend too.

Thanks Everyone! :props:

Here are the pictures of th bag. As you can see one side has the wheel and the other is missing. That's the one I want help on.

Thanks

Thank you TuxedoTaurus, thing is I don't have the other wheel. So I was thinking I could find something at Home Depot and just attaching a wheel. (That's as far as I've gotten with that idea :D )

If taht is the case go to Lowes or HD and get some caster wheels with a couple lock nuts and bolts. Drill holes in the piece on the bag and attach the caster wheel. Won't be the best looking but will be functional.

Something like Richelieu Hardware 2 in. General Duty Rubber Rigid Caster-F25748 - The Home Depot or Everbilt 1-1/2 in. Soft Rubber Swivel Plate Caster with 40 lb. Load Rating-49489 - The Home Depot

and something similar to M8 Zinc-Plated Nylon Lock Nut-36258 - The Home Depot on some bolts

Good Luck,
Kevin

Hey Art I just wanted to way in here........DO NOT USE A DRILL AND A DRILL BIT to make the holes for the new casters......looks like your bag is vinyl and using a drill bit will pull the fibers and could unravel.

You should find an alternative to making the holes like a carpet punch(available at most tool stores)

If you have a DR Vinyl(easy google search) franchise near you that would solve your zipper problem sewing vinyl is whole different thing than clothes.

Good luck.......and nice to see you playing again!

Good thing you brought that up, didn't think about that. Thank you as well. :dblthumb2:

Art,

Looks like Cordura to me. That will shred when you hit it with a drill. OTOH, what you can do (if you can get something underneath that plastic) is melt a hole in it with a soldering iron.

One alternative is to find a local Luggage Repair service. My little brother used to work for a place here actually called "Luggage Repair" that does bags for the airlines. They have 3 offices in and around Atlanta. I know other areas have some, although they'll ship bags halfway across the country to have them repaired.

You literally wouldn't believe what all they'll fix.
Louie Vuitton fabric, buckles, buttons... got it.
Ralph Lauren, Hartmann, Mulberry, Globe Trotter, Bottega Veneta, Alfred Dunhill, Bally... they literally had all that fabric hanging on rolls. The only difference, (generally) was the hole in your wallet.

If you can find a place that fixes bags for the airlines they can fix yours. The best part is they can make it look like a factory fix, and probably do it considerably cheaper than your local min-mall repair shop.

I'm with Tim btw.... it's really nice to see ya' playing the ol' "doghouse" again. :dblthumb2:

Thank you CarFather. :)

Making it look like new is the best option yet. I do live in Los Angeles. They have everything here.

Funny thing is I have it on a stand in my room and play it from time to time. Well it accumulated dust. So I'm going to give it a quick Waterless wash before I head off tomorrow.

I waterless wash everything now lol. I have a small bottle of Meguairs Quick Detailer and a MF towel from Costco. Dedicated to wipe down my shoes before I head out. Works great!

Most Fabric Stores have a bulletin board with ads for local ladies that sew for a fee
