Okay, I've got an issue and I need some help!

I had some leftover plasti-dip on my bumper so I used some 3M 38983 Adhesive remover to get it off. In doing that some of the 3M product overspray got on some black plastic parts on the car. They are now stained a yellow / white color.

Does anyone know how to remove the stains and make the plastic black again?

Thanks!

Joshua

I would try a dedicated plastic cleaner, sprong APC or IPA.

I have a feeling that the over spray that wasn't wiped up has stained the trim.

Don't know if this will "fix it", but here's how I would go about it:

1. I would use 1Z Plastic Cleaner/ TS Tire Cleaner/ or P21S TAW to try to clean it. I don't think "APCs" will work here.

2. Forget brushes - not aggressive enough. Use a cotton wash cloth type towel to scrub the area.

3. Cleaning may take multiple times with some time in between. Whatever solvent (I'm guessing there is a solvent in this 3M stuff) is in the chemical likely was absorbed into the plastic. It may just evaporate out over time. Cleaning the surface tends to make the absorbed stuff come out quicker IME.

4. If none of that works or makes it 100% perfect, I would try "scrubbing" with a silicone based dressing like Black Wow. That should make it look better and it may fade away evenly.

All just my experience.

Thanks, I agree. I didn't realize it got so far from the intended places. Anyway, pardon me but what is a APC? I assume IPA is alcohol...?

Thanks for the response. I'm a bit confused - you're saying you don't think APCs will work. I asked the other user what those are. Is 1Z an APC? I'll look up those options you mentioned.
