restoring aftermarket chrome exhaust

Hi guys,

I have seen a lot of threads about polishing exhausts but, my aftermarket exhaust is very "hazy" on the outside and has lost that "new chrome" look.

I really want it to look like new again and see my reflection in it. Has anyone tried using the PC with some kind of chrome polish? If so, what kind of pad and polish did you use and how were the results?

I will be taking the exhaust off to polish it so I have more room to work with.
 
Have you tried #0000 steel wool?

That will work wonders if you havent used it yet. Im sure you could polish using a PC I just imagine it would be difficult to reach all parts of the exhaust, even with the 4 inch pads.

I have not tried the steel wool, I actualy thought you should only use that inside the exhaust tip? I guess I will try that. Do I just use the steel wool with car shampoo and water or do I use it with polish? My exhaust is pretty easy to get at so, I think I may be able to get in there with the PC but, I will try the steel wool first.
 
Wash them first. Then use steel wool and a little apc. Then follow with steel wool and a metal/chrome polish. Then finish with a micro or applicator and the metal/chrome polish. (the last step would be to use the PC if you wanted)

Just make sure its #0000 steel wool

cool thank for the info. I will try this process and do some before and after pics once this snow storm clears up.

this is exactly what i would suggest, to a tee.

i use mothers metal polish tub to this day, no need for anything special. i use it for all polishable metals, including my (and my wife's) wedding ring.
 
Like he said, #0000 steel wool and metal polish. If I could suggest a product, go for the P21S Polishing Soap. Won't regret it! :xyxthumbs:
 
When I do a more involved detail on a Harley that has grungy looking pipes I use Pro Polish on a wool pad with a rotary and they look fantastic when they are done. I know you said PC in your OP but that is what worked best for me. I mention the Harley because I have the pipes off of it when I do it. For cars I use the #0000 S.W. like mentioned above with PB PP
