So as I posted up the other day. I purchased a bottle of 3D new 505 correction glaze which is a body shop safe version of the famous HD Speed. They claim that it cuts a bit better and wipes off easier than speed.

So my test subject for this comparison is my dad`s Pontiac g6 in black. This car sits outside 24/7 and the only time it gets any love is when I have to steal it from him lol. He thinks he is inconveniencing me if he asks me to clean it. Which couldn`t be further from the truth lol.

Anyway after a very aggressive wash and decontamination process this is what I was left with.

Swirls, marring, RIDS etc

For the first part of the test I put a thick tape line to divide the door into 2 sections. The left side for 505 and the right for Speed.

This is the 505 side with which I started with.

For testing I am using my G21, clean LC orange Pro thin pads.

One thing to note is that being that I used a orange pad which is a bit stiffer I highly suggest priming the pad by forcing some of the product into the cells of the pad. This helps keep initial product sling down. I found out the hard way at first lol. I didn`t experience this the previous day with a soft polishing pad.

Pre priming.

After priming I spread out the product a bit and began polishing on speed 6. I did somewhere in the neighborhood of 8-10 passes with medium arm speed and pressure. I wanted to test out the working time. As expected it just kept working and working without drying or dusting.

Wipe off was effortless and showed great correcting ability!

For the speed side the same process was repeated. Using a fresh LC pro thin orange pad.

So after completing this test I did have some observations.

IMO 505 spread out a bit easier. Almost like a liquid paste wax. Not a huge difference over speed but something to note.

I did get a tiny bit of dusting with speed vs none with 505.

Wipe off was the same for me.

As for correcting ability and finishing. It was impossible to capture but I had a faint bit better gloss with 505. It`s so minimal that not many I think would notice.

At this point I had more similarities then differences.

Here is a video of the test panel.

For the next part of the test I wanted to really test out cutting ability of 505 with a boss microfiber cutting pad. I had a feeling that it would haze. And it did haze a bit. I followed it up with the orange LC pro thin pad and it cleared it right up.

One thing that did notice after completing the whole car with 505 is that it clears out of the pad easier than speed with compressed air. Speed tends to gum up my pads and not release easily. I was able to complete the whole car with one orange pad. Blowing it out after each panel and using one to two drops per panel.

Here`s a video of the hood after using the microfiber follwed by the orange pad.

My overall thought is that I really do like 505 but it is a bit pricey vs speed. Are the few benefits of 505 over speed worth the added cost? That`s for others to form there opinion on. I will continue to use this bottle and see where I stand at the end. But for now for me it`s a keeper.

Here`s the car all finished up with a coat of Collonite 476 for a little added protection.

Great review swirls were shallow and light. My own opinion would be to continue using Sonax .one pad one step no promblem.I'm sold on Sonax so easy to use and doesn't have any filling components what you see is what you get.Although speed comes in handy on certain jobs.I have so many bottles of Sonax I can't see purchasing more polish. Also I like to top aio with a premium wax or sealant and not relying solely on the aio protection .Thanks so much for the time sharing this with us and most importantly you were honest about it.Happy new year justin.

Awesome review and Great work , The car looks amazing. I am a HD Speed fan myself. I don't do this as a business so I will probably just stay with the speed. Thanks for taking the time to post this.

Nice review and test. The marketing hype around 505 made it seem like its head and shoulders above Speed but luckily most have wised up to wild claims. At the lower price point Speed matches it in cut and gloss, so that pretty much clears everything up.

But you forgot the most important part. What was your dad's reaction?

Great review and awesome results. I have a 32oz bottle of unopened Speed waiting for spring and warmer weather. I love the stuff and I'm on my second bottle.

How does 505 smell compared to Speed? Because that really matters in the end:)

Thanks bud! Sonax is definitely on my list to try. Have never used there products.

Glad you enjoyed it. Speed is definitely a winner!

Great write-up Justin. I like the comps between the Speed & 505.

Exactly! My only reason for trying it is I was low on Speed.

My dad was thrilled of course lol.

As for smell it doesn't have the grape sent of speed. It doesn't have much of a smell at all. Just a very small chemical smell. Not unpleasant at all.

Nice work and review!

Thanks!

Well even though 505 correction glaze is completely unnecessary in my world, I am thoroughly impressed 3D was able to make a body shop safe/fresh paint safe AIO that is just as easy to use as HD speed. If it wasn't quite as easy to use and remove I was STILL going to be impressed. For me, the 501 compound and 502 polish missed the mark a bit in terms of ease of use and ease of removal especially since HD Cut+ and Polish+ are also fresh paint safe/body shop safe. But it sounds like that is not the case for 505 correction glaze. Thank you for sharing your unbiased experience with it. Unless Meguiars 305 durable glaze is also extremely easy to use and gives you the ability to finish the entire car before removing, it's sounds like like this really will be a game changer for body shops and detailers working on fresh paint.

Yeah I have never used the 501/502 stuff. But if body shops do get a hold of the 505 and use it as directed we may finally see shops finishing work properly lol.

Good review, Justin. Thanks. I was excited to read about this when it was released and still use and like Speed currently. I am a cost watcher and will pick up a small bottle (if available) and try it out against Speed just as you did. I, again, greatly appreciate your work on this review but like to trial things in my own environment using my equipment and test "models".

In the final analysis it will come down to noticeable and tangible improvements over Speed to warrant the higher price.

Nothing wrong with that! Like I said. I still think there's more similarities then differences. With that being said I doubt they will offer a small size. They may like they did with 501/502. But at 70$ for a quart it's definitely pricey.

Nice review Justin, very helpful!

HD Speed is already a great product so I was looking forward to trying out 505.

May give it a shot after I finish with my HD Speed.

Great review, thanks for taking the time to post this up. I was very curious. :props:

Great review, as a Speed hobbyist I'll keep the speed until gone. Question GSKR, which Sonax and pad combo are you referring to?
Thanks all

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and photos man. I might have to try this stuff but Speed is so great that it's hard to imagine another product that's considerably better.

I use a lot of ex04 ~06 Either foam or micro depends on paint condition.

I have used 501 & 502 and they might be a little harder to work with, they did a good job on a really bad black truck. I do like how easily the pads cleaned up with high pressure water hose. I may have to add the 505 to the collection but not til I use the rest of my speed.

Great review. I have a bottle of speed waiting for it's first use. I can't wait!

I totally agree with you on that! Glad you enjoyed the review..

I still need to try 501/502.

You won't be disappointed!
