Over the past few months I have read a lot of threads asking questions about the Foam Cannon and Foam Gun. Since I have a Foam Cannon, I wanted to do a review and give you my impressions.
Wolfgang Foam Cannon HP, foam lance, car wash foamer, pressure washer foam gun
First off the product:
I have the gun side by side with the cannon so as you can see I am ready for the Zombie Apocalypse :xyxthumbs:
If you are considering the Foam Cannon, you most likely have the same reservation as anyone else, namely the price! It was a concern of mine before buying it, but I was fortunate enough to pull the trigger (pun intended) when AG was running a 20% off sale with $125 Free Shipping, so it made the initial shock a little more bearable. Don't get me wrong, it was still an investment and I still had my reservation as to "wanting" vs. "needing" it. In researching alternatives I saw a lesser priced item which looked similar, but ultimately I would have had to spend an extra $20 for the adapter for my Karsher PS (unit + S/H) Karcher X Series Pressure Washer Fitting, making the two units similarly priced. Since AG is my one stop for all my detailing supplies, it was a no brainer.
So was the purchase worth it? It literally took one time for me to become a believer that I needed it, rather than wanted it.
PROS:
1) It make a MAJOR foam show (even with a 2000psi electric power washer).
2) Extremely easy to set up and use
3) It foams ANYTHING!. The picture below is pure Dawn soap (1 oz. dilution)
4) It allows a longer dwell time than a mitt process which allows me a longer work time (I live the South Louisiana)
5) You can do a pre-soak and skip the pre-wash rinse (unless extremely dirty). The soap acts on the dirt and grime and lifts the basic stuff; a quick rinse and re-foam, and you are ready for the 2 bucket wash.
CONS:
1) My main con is that there is no real good markings for dilutions.
2) The knob on top is a little confusing at first. I did not know if it was for more water or more soap so played around to see what the + was referencing
3) You do have to swap the wand to rinse off
We do not need to have another thread on "Is foam necessary?", since we all know that it is not really necessary (think of the lack of suds from Rinseless and Waterless products), but foam does have a function. In all the threads I read on the subject, it seems that it can be sub-divided in 2 reasoning.
1) Marketing
2) Dwell time
I do use the foam cannon for both. Customers rant and rave about the pictures I text them with their car engulfed in foam, and they show all their friends....... As a marketing tool alone, it has paid for itself over and over! Customers are literally asking to get the picture of their car engulfed in foam.
We could discuss the mechanics of surfactants etc.. but lets say that dwell time and work time are extremely important and this allows me both. If I work in full sun with a mitt and bucket, by the time I am done going around the car the soap is dried (unless I do one panel at a time). The foam cannon allows me to foam up in seconds and give me enough time to then use my mitt and 2 bucket to do my thing.
Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat, if I could buy it with a 20% off and Free Shipping. Without..... I would still do it :dblthumb2:
