Over the past few months I have read a lot of threads asking questions about the Foam Cannon and Foam Gun. Since I have a Foam Cannon, I wanted to do a review and give you my impressions.

Wolfgang Foam Cannon HP, foam lance, car wash foamer, pressure washer foam gun

First off the product:

I have the gun side by side with the cannon so as you can see I am ready for the Zombie Apocalypse :xyxthumbs:

If you are considering the Foam Cannon, you most likely have the same reservation as anyone else, namely the price! It was a concern of mine before buying it, but I was fortunate enough to pull the trigger (pun intended) when AG was running a 20% off sale with $125 Free Shipping, so it made the initial shock a little more bearable. Don't get me wrong, it was still an investment and I still had my reservation as to "wanting" vs. "needing" it. In researching alternatives I saw a lesser priced item which looked similar, but ultimately I would have had to spend an extra $20 for the adapter for my Karsher PS (unit + S/H) Karcher X Series Pressure Washer Fitting, making the two units similarly priced. Since AG is my one stop for all my detailing supplies, it was a no brainer.

So was the purchase worth it? It literally took one time for me to become a believer that I needed it, rather than wanted it.

PROS:
1) It make a MAJOR foam show (even with a 2000psi electric power washer).
2) Extremely easy to set up and use
3) It foams ANYTHING!. The picture below is pure Dawn soap (1 oz. dilution)
4) It allows a longer dwell time than a mitt process which allows me a longer work time (I live the South Louisiana)
5) You can do a pre-soak and skip the pre-wash rinse (unless extremely dirty). The soap acts on the dirt and grime and lifts the basic stuff; a quick rinse and re-foam, and you are ready for the 2 bucket wash.

CONS:
1) My main con is that there is no real good markings for dilutions.
2) The knob on top is a little confusing at first. I did not know if it was for more water or more soap so played around to see what the + was referencing
3) You do have to swap the wand to rinse off

We do not need to have another thread on "Is foam necessary?", since we all know that it is not really necessary (think of the lack of suds from Rinseless and Waterless products), but foam does have a function. In all the threads I read on the subject, it seems that it can be sub-divided in 2 reasoning.

1) Marketing
2) Dwell time

I do use the foam cannon for both. Customers rant and rave about the pictures I text them with their car engulfed in foam, and they show all their friends....... As a marketing tool alone, it has paid for itself over and over! Customers are literally asking to get the picture of their car engulfed in foam.

We could discuss the mechanics of surfactants etc.. but lets say that dwell time and work time are extremely important and this allows me both. If I work in full sun with a mitt and bucket, by the time I am done going around the car the soap is dried (unless I do one panel at a time). The foam cannon allows me to foam up in seconds and give me enough time to then use my mitt and 2 bucket to do my thing.

Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat, if I could buy it with a 20% off and Free Shipping. Without..... I would still do it :dblthumb2:

Nice review. Thanks for putting this up for us.

I have had the same thought process about want vs need and I think I am going to pick one up when the time comes.

Hi Dr. Pain...

Thanks for the review I live in Florida where it gets at as hell. I was concerned by the time I foamed the car and started washing the suds would dry up. Did you have any problems with the sun playing a factor?

Hey Dr. Pain, what ratio did you use in that picture?? It seems as though your foam is really thick!

Most of the full details I do start early and I try to never wash or foam mid day (was doing that before getting the foam cannon regardless). I did have some soap drying issues early on until I was able to dial in the dwell time better. If I do a full size SUV I position the vehicle so that I have a direct sun exposed and no direct sun exposure and start the rinse on the non exposed side first. By the time I am done rinsing on the sun exposed I can start drying (leaf blower and guzzler) and by the time I get on the non exposed I still have enough moisture left not to worry about water spots. I do have to admit that I have a central water conditioner which helps a lot. If I do end up with streaking/soap residue or water spots I keep an ONR QD spray which I use once I bring the car in the shop.

Thanks Bob.... It means a lot coming from you. It would be great if you get a chance to discuss the soap function (surfaction, emulsification, alkalinity factor, chemical and mechanical requirements etc....)

Excellent review! Thanks for taking the time to post it. I also recently purchased the AG foam cannon as well as a Karcher x-series & agree with you on all points.

The addition of graduations in oz & ratio on the bottle would be awesome. It would also have been nice to know what the knob did right away vs having to "figure it out".

Glad to see you are prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse!

Hey Dr. Pain, what ratio did you use in that picture?? It seems as though your foam is really thick!

Believe it or not I have a little less than 1/2oz of Dawn in 16oz of regular old cold water. On that particular detail we used 2/3 of the bottle on the first wash and refoamed with the remainder after claying

Some believe that hot water produces more suds. I have to admit that I haven't tried it yet. A clean water source does help. As mentioned before I have a central water softener/conditioner which does help a lot. Is the clean water source an absolute necessity?? Nope! Got the similar results from untreated city water.

Nice review PAIN! I have the GILMORE FOAMASTER, but the foam cannon looks really nice too:)

Ok cool, but 1 more thing, did you fill the foam cannon up to the top? I don't know if that would make a difference, but whenever I seem to use my foam cannon, it's more "liquidy" and I even use DP Xtreme Foam

I have the same set up, Karcher Series X and the AG foam cannon, although I am waiting for weather to improve here on Long Island to put it all in play.

And thank you Dr_Pain for the nice review.

I fill the water up and then put the soap. I then invert it back and forth to mix. I too had a liquidy mix till I figured how to use the knob on top. I do like the feature of the tip adjustments which give you the ability to pin point or fan the foam. I use a large fan pattern. Not sure if it makes a difference but I would venture a guess that it does make a difference.

Nice review! I recently bought the same AG Cannon (I have Ivan on mine!) and I agree with you that it took only one wash to see the benefit. I use it for presoaking and by the time I get to the two bucket wash there is barely any grit/dirt on the paint.

I believe my pressure washer is only 1800 psi and I get shaving cream thick foam from it!

Always prepared :dblthumb2:

I had looked into that one and the MTM.... but I love AG and refuse to purchase anywhere else :nomore:

You're welcome! It was a review in the making since I had gotten it. I was waiting to put a side by side with other soaps. Planning a "showdown" with 3 different soap at some point in the future.

Nothing like shaving cream to market the "day at the spa".

Hey PAIN, my fault, it's the Foamaster foam gun I bought from AG, I thought it was the GILMORE FOAMASTER, but it's the FOAMASTER FOAM GUN from AG:) trust me AG is the only place I buy from, AG is to good to go anywhere else:)
