BLACKFIRE Midnight Sun Spray Wax, spray car wax, aerosol wax
I was one of the lucky winners to get to try this new spray wax from Blackfire.
Before I get into my thoughts on the product, let me make some comments on spray waxes. Many people use spray waxes as a booster to an LSP. However, many spray waxes now are advertised to offer enough protection on their own. I personally find I am only using spray waxes for the most part. They are easy and quick enough to use that I use them almost every few weeks. That combined with a quick detailer sometimes used as a drying aid (which have polymers and a small amount of protection in them as well), my paint always seems to be well protected with excellent beading and sheeting characteristics. And of course very shiny
Am I fooling myself? Is my paint not as well protected as it could be if I were using traditional waxes or sealants more often? And as technology advances, what really is traditional now?
Its actually the need I personally have to use products like spray waxes and quick detailers that keep me from coating my car. Its part of my therapy.
Now on to the product. I have been using XMT Spray wax regularly. I really like the latest version of that. I have also used Meguiars Ultimate Spray wax (which was fine), Souveran Spray wax (which I didnt really like) and a few others I cant remember, oh and Meguiars NXT Spray wax which might be the worst detailing product of all time. One of the reasons I like spray waxes is they all smell great and ease of use.
Now on to Midnight Sun... first off, if anyone has used Pinnacle Crystal Mist Detailer, Midnight sun has a consistency very similar to that. I liken it almost to a lotion like feeling. In comparison, XMT is much thinner more like water. While XMT flashes and dissapears almost instantly, Midnight sun requires it to be spread out, and then wiped off. I did exactly that. I spread it out, it was visible on the paint, and then a few seconds later, wiped it off effortlessly. There was no streaking. Initially, I didnt feel the slickness, but that appeared after a few minutes, so perhaps there is a curing time of a few minutes. It has a pleasant scent, couldnt put my finger on exactly what it smells like, but it was nice.
It will be hard for me to truly test the durability of this product for the reasons I mentioned above. Since I use XMT the most now, to compare, this wax has a more luxurious feel, and leaves the paint a little slicker. Its so hard to say if it was any glossier or not but the looks are nice. I would probably use this wax as a great show car prep myself due to that extra slickness and luxurious feel.
Because it has carnuba content the directions advise not to apply to a hot surface.
Here are some photos, which show a shiny car, but any review requires at least some photos!
It rained later in the afternoon ( I swear I can make it rain by washing my car in the morning) so here is a nice water beading shot:
I did apply it to the rear window as well as it can be used on multiple exterior surfaces.
I also applied it to my garage queen 350Z. Prior to this I had only used Souveran and Crystal Mist on that car and the Midnight Sun made the paint as slick as a coat of Souveran would. No photos.
Its a nice spray wax and worthy of the Blackfire name!
