So I whipped out my white Cobra Cross Groove pads today and I must say I despise them. I will either be selling them or they will be finding their way in the trash.

I used the white pad and this pad skips like none other. I thought CCS pads were bad with skipping, and I bought a cobra cross groove pad in hopes of them being better. But no they are worse. Me keeping a steady pace with holding my Flex xc3401 with the cross groove pads felt like the equivalent of me trying to hold a cheetah on a leash. So I give these a big thumbs down along with the CCS pads.

I really wish the old school Lake Country flat pads came back in a 6.5" size. I have a few 5.5" but 6.5" would work so much faster. Does anyone know if any more flat pads exist that are the equivalent of the old school LC white pads?

I used the Cobra Cross Cut pads with a Flex Ramdom Orbital on my last Viper detail. I loved them I didn't have any problems with them skipping. They did a great job on all the curves whick is just about the whole car.

i could not agree with you more. If you are looking for a good flat 6.5 inch pad, trying the meguiars soft buff pads. The cutting, polishing, and finishing are all you need. No need for 6 different pad cutting types IMO.

I think the Viper may have smoother body lines than my Civic. There are quite a few sharp lines especially along the sides and trying to keep control of the thing close by those areas is quite a challenge. Whereas with the regular flat pads it is a breeze.

Jdm thanks for the heads up. I may have to check that out. What would be the equivalent of the white LC pad with the Meguiars pads?

LC White = Meguiars W-8006 (yellow)

Meguiars Pads
W-9006 = Finishing
W-8006 = Polishing
W-7006 = Cutting

Interesting...I just used the orange cross groove + SIP on a 99 Boxster today. Smooth as buttah. The green 7.5" LC CCS pads were a bear.

I'll take your X-grooves k20

I never had an issue with mine skipping...did you mist the pad with anything?

Maybe I should give them another go before making up my mind. I misted it with a spritz of distilled water. I think the body lines just suck on the civic. The cross groove and CCS pads work fine with other polishers its just with the Flex that the pad skips all over the place. The areas circled in white is where I get the most skipping....

Ahhhh, right where that "crease" is at the junction of the A & C pillars to the quarter panels. Have you tried holding the flex like an angle grinder on those parts? I had to on the rear of the Boxster b/c of the damn pop-up spoiler area.

Haha yeah those creases are the devil!!! Even if I try to angle it like you said the pad still wants to run away from me.

I have the cross groove orange pad and it feels very stiff. I have only done a little testing with it, but it doesn't seem to 'flex' very well.

Time will tell I guess.....
