Review: Griot's Garage Best of Show Paste Wax

Recently we did another Autogeek Extreme Makeover to a very cool car. The car was a restored 1969 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible that was in horribly neglected condition.

Process

Step 1: To correct the paint and remove all the swirls, scratches, water spots and oxidation we used the Griot's Correcting Cream.

Step 2: After we removed all the paint defects we maximized the gloss and clarity of the clearcoat using Griot's Perfecting Cream.

Step 3: To protect the paint and maximize the gloss and shine we applied Griot's Garage Best of Show Paste Wax

My comments...

Application
The Griot's Best of Show Paste Wax glides on effortlessly, it's really easy to spread out and that's a key feature normally associated with liquid waxes.

Scent and consistency
It has a pleasant fragrance although I can't quite identify what the scent is? The wax itself is in-between a soft wax and a hard wax. It's not goopy like some soft waxes but it's not so hard its like concrete in the jar. The correct technique for getting the wax out of the jar is to spin your wax applicator pad over the top of the wax in the jar and this will act to liquefy the top portion of wax so it will coat the face of your wax applicator pad.

Directions for use
The directions state you can apply and remove panel by panel or apply to the entire car and then remove. This ability to apply to an entire car at one time and then remove is an indicate the product is easy to remove otherwise they would have directed you to apply immediately after applying to single panel. We opted to apply to then entire car and then remove and I can assure you this wax wipes off s-u-p-e-r easy!

Results
The pictures do the talking but the results were a super clear, super high gloss finish with zero streaks or splotchy areas. The paint looked like it was wet, as though it was just brought out of the paint booth with a brand new paint job.

If you're a paste wax fan you'll love Best of Show Paste Wax by Griot's Garage.

Nice product Griot's!

Nice! I actually just ordered some last week for an older 911 Cab in SS guards red that's coming in next week. Can't wait to try it out! :)

Nice. I have so many waxes I doubt I ever get a chance to use this one, but I'm glad to hear it's better than their Best of Show liquid wax. That was one of the hardest products to work with that I've ever used.

I've used this and it's a fine wax, especially in this price range. As a bonus it smells very good also

I agree! They just recently updated it though and now it should wipe off very easily. :props:

Man awesome job on that car. Can't argue with those results. And at that price you can't go wrong.

Nice review! I used to use Griot's Best of Show Wax in the bottle...while it gave a magnificent appearance to the car it could be a real bear to remove if you didn't follow the direction exactly...like put it on too thick...or in high humidity. It's nice to know they've upgraded a fine product and made it even better!

442 looks sick!!! I love red when it's freshly buffed and polished! I've also looked at the best of show paste wax a million times and wanted to try it. Agree with vobo....very reasonably priced and sounds like a good user friendly paste wax!

Glad to hear the positive comments Mike. I just ordered two cans earlier this week. Looking forward to an after work wax session Monday when it arroves.

The paste is miles better than the liquid, goes on thin and removes very easily. It hasn't rained much here but after 4 washes (3weeks) the BSW Paste still sheets really fast and provides a high gloss finish
