I was fortunate enough to win the recent Griot's giveaway.
I was happy to find the box contained the new Trim Restorer and a cool assortment of the new PFM microfiber products. Being a fan of plush drying towels over WW's, my first test was the newly-introduced Griots Garage PFM Terry Weave Towel, Set of 2
My first impression was that these towels are both very thick and very heavy. Curious, I weighed them and a few others on my postal scale. A single GG 16X16 inch PFM weighed in at 5.7 ounces, compared to a similar size TRC Eagle at 2.4 ounces and a TRC 24X16" "Dry Me A River" WW at 3.2 ounces.
My test involved a rinseless wash, using DG Rinseless on my Black DD Lacrosse. I followed my normal winter wash procedure, with a pre-spray of the DG solution and two Meg's MF mitts, one for the horizontal panels and upper sides and one for the lower side panels. After a few panels, I go over the panel with a single damp TRC Eagle as a "mop", breaking up the larger water spots, but not attempting to get it completely dry.
For my final drying wipe, I broke out the GG PFM's which I had pre-washed before use. I did the entire car and glass, not including wheels, with a single 16" X 16" PFM. No streaks to chase, even on glass. These things are thirsty! Even as they become sightly damp, they still wipe clean, even on black paint.
I haven't tried every towel on the market, but these are definitely the best I've used. The ability to dry a complete midsize car with one 16 inch towel is something I've never experienced before. Even with larger towels, I've always had to keep a second towel around for final cleanup.
Without being redundant, I highly recommend giving these a try. I just can't say enough about how well they work and how safe they feel on the finish. At first, they may seem a bit pricey for two small towels, but in reality they're quite a bargain. The PFM's also come in a 25X35 inch size, but unless you're either blotting sensitive paints or washing motor homes, I can't see the need for the larger size.
Thanks again to Bryan and Griots' for the giveaway!
