Review: Lake Country Wash Wedge

Introduction:

When it was first released I was very interested in this wash media just on looks alone. I am a person who has a passion for the microfiber chenille wash mitts as they have been great to means the paint that I do work on. When I saw this wash wedge I was interested and skeptic at the same time.

Product Description:

The Lake Country Wash Wedge is an ingeniously designed gold foam wash sponge that features cross-cut and slotted grooves for safe, effective dirt removal. Constructed entirely out of premium gold foam, Lake Country’s softest foam, the Wash Wedge pampers your vehicle’s delicate finish to ensure the paint remains swirl and scratch free after every wash. Comfort-grip neoprene foam handle makes the Wash Wedge easy to hold on to, even with soapy hands.

Product Details:

Neoprene foam handle
Slotted gold foam
$12.99

As with any wash media you should always wash from the town down and with the 2 bucket method. The buckets should also contain the grit guards to trap all the dirt at the bottom of the bucket.

Test Subject:

2014 Tesla Model S

I first started by washing the wheels and wheel wells then moved to the paint. I then gave the car a full foam bath to foam and lift away heavy dirt and debris that was on the paint. I then took the foam wedge and gave it a nice dunk in my wash bucket and the first thing I noticed was how much water this wedge holds very very impressive. I started washing with the roof, front windshield, and the rear window. The wash wedge went across the areas with ease and had no discomfort holding the wedge. Since the foam has cross grooves it made it very easy for the foam to spread out and cover more area as it was being used. I then moved to the hood and trunk and put this to work on the paint. The wedge moved across paint effortlessly trapping all the dirt in the foam fans.

When I was rinsing out the wedge I noticed how easily it released the dirt from the foam it self which is a hug he plus in my book.

I finished the car by working my way down to the bottom.

Pros:
Softer than I ever expected
Easy to hold dry and wet
Holds lot of water
Releases dirt easily

Cons:
None so far!

Summary:

The Lake Country Wash Wedge has changed they way I look as foam wash medias. I think Lake Country hit a huge home run on this and for the price its a no brainer. If you haven't tried this out or are against foam wash medias like I was then I encourage you to give this a try. I think it will change you like it have me.

Hope you enjoyed!

Including some of these in my next order . I currently only use a sponge on the lower panels of a vehicle .

Thanks for the review Evan, I was on the fence with the wash mitt as I really dont care for foam. But if you used it and say it is gentle on the paints clearcoat than I will definetly be trying one out in the future. As always thanks for the review and posting your findings. Much appreciated.

Nice! Whats your preference on "rinsing" the wash mitt of dirt? Squeezing, rubbing against the grit guard, or spraying it with the hose?

Also, have you tested it out with rinseless washes?

Very interesting. I'll have to look into getting one of these. Thanks for the review!

Evan, many thanks for your review.

My questions is this... how do you rate this LC sponge on surfaces like a transition from the lower door window trim to a door panel. There is usually some build up on this 'shelf' that is present on some vehicles. Hope my description makes sense.

Thanks!

Really nice format on the layout of your review Evan. Nicely done.

I have been using a standard wash mitt and lately have given more thought to the way it contacts paint and it seems like it drags over the paint more than I would like.

This release of LC new wash media intrigues me and have been thinking of picking it up. You may just have persuaded me...

Great review! This was always an intriguing product and when it was released there was quite a bit of discussion as to if it would be a successful product or not. Glad to see you enjoying it so much! As for me, I still have the ole faithful CarPro Merino Wool wash mitt and recently picked up the Microfiber Madness Incredimitt, so I think I'm good, but if I need a new one, I'll take a look at this based on your review.

Thanks Chris. From all that I have seem with this wash wedge I have not doubt its gentle on paint. I am going to continue to use it and see how else I like and and how durable it will be.

I like to dip it in the bucket and grind it against the grit guard then ring it out.

No haven't tried it with a rinesless yet.

Thanks Justin!

I didn't seem to have any issues as i continued to go down towards the bottom of the car. Nothing changed in the washing process and I didn't see a change in how the was wedge preformed. Hope that answers your question if not let me know!

Thanks Mike! Like I said I was not a huge fan of sponges but if you at how the foam lays down and spreads out once you start washing its me thing different.. Additionally the amount of soap that stays in the deep grooves I think allows the soap to trap the dirt better.

Thanks! Hey ifs it not broke don't fix it right? If you do ever get a chance though to pick one up and give it a test on you car i think you will be pleasantly surprised at how well it works and how soft it is. :props:

Your killing me :)

Here will go Autogeek ......One less present for wife Im the MAN

Great review. I love my wedge for all the same reasons. Holds lots of water and easy to control. Cleans up good to, the only down side is having to comb all the ribs back in line.

Curious why you didn't hose the foam off before using the mitt.
Feed back please :buffing:

Thanks for the review. Bought 2 during the sales and used 1 over the weekend. My go to now.

Thank you! If combing all the foam fan back into place is the only downfall then I'll take it! I'm very pleased with mine.

The foam was brand new so no need to hose it off.

Does it seem like it will hold up in the long run?
So far I have no reason to believe that it won't.

No a problem thanks for reading.

Great review. I purchased one last week but have been out of town. Can't wait to get back and give it a try.

Hello, do you think LC wash wedge is better than all products like Megs mitt, sheep's wool mitt etc?

Unless the car is already clean, I would have a difficult time with the concept/product. Just my 2 cents!

Hello, do you think LC wash wedge is better than all products like Megs mitt, sheep's wool mitt etc?
I have always been a microfiber wash mitt person and that's what I have always used. I would say this has it's spot in my arsenal for well maintained vehicles or upper portions of a vehicle. I feel very confident in the wash wedge being very safe for paint. I will stress that keeping the foam well cleaned during the washing process will be key to keeping the mitt safe for paint but that's goes for any wash media. The foam seemed to release the dirt very easy from my washing and testing and I wouldn't say the car was very clean to begin with.

Do I think one is better than the rest no I think they all have a place but you can bet that I will have no problem using this on any vehicle that had been polished and protected.

The car that I used this on was certainly not clean by any means. I think the wash wedge is from the same foam that you can find on the LC coating applicators and if you can use that foam to apply and coating after a paint correction then you can certainly use the wash wedge to wash with. It's certainly a product worth trying for 12 bucks.
