Greetings everyone. I wanted to provide my thoughts on a new product from Meguiar's, D114 Rinse Free Express Wash. This is just a basic review based on my opinion after one use. I usually don't form an opinion after one use of a product but this one was a little different. Thoughts shared at the end. On to the review...

Product Name/Manufacturer: D114 Rinse Free Express Wash - Meguiar's

Product Size: 1 US Gallon

Product Price: $39.99 Retail

Directions: Shake well, dilute 1oz. per gallon of water, no directions to make clay bar lubricant or quick detailer

*All pictures taken with iPhone and resized with Kodak EasyShare software, no enhancements made.

Here are a few pictures showing the condition of my HHR SS before a quick rinse with my pressure washer:

As you can see I had some grime (very gritty) hanging out in a few crevices that were not washed away after a trip through the touchless.

The tools for the job: 2 cheap waffle weave towels, 1 micro fiber drying towel, 1 PakShak Ultra Smooth, 1 micro fiber towel I'm testing, 1 micro fiber bone wash pad

3 ounces of product measured out

The viscosity is very thin as you can tell in this picture

Something to note and new to me, some slight suds formed after mixing product

Wiped dry with ease, no streaks

Take note of my rinse bucket (yellow) after just making one pass on the roof of my car

After working my way around the car the thought hit me to show how well this product releases dirt from the wash pad.

This is my rinse water after finishing just the paint, I didn't clean the wheels because we are expecting rain

Final Thoughts: If you're looking for a rinseless wash that leaves the paint feeling clean but not loaded down with polymers that may or may not interfere with an LSP, this is the one. To me it's like the Shampoo+ of the rinseless world. I did not notice any additional gloss after using this. The downside to this product is the dilution ratio at nearly the same price as other rinseless washes. Overall I'm pleased with this product and do not regret buying a gallon of it. It definitely has a place in my arsenal but is not the end all to rinseless washes either.

Thanks for reading. :)

Thanks for sharing your review!! I can't wait to try mine out.

Interesting to see how well dirt is released from your wash media. That's one thing that I haven't like about ONR (V2). Granted, I use a white microfiber mitt, so it will show more dirt, but it still ends up pretty dingy after finishing an ONR wash.

Thanks for the review! I still have old DP 4-in-1, and that stuff is terrible. I really here you on the "loaded down with polymers" note, and it does not release grit at all.

Looks like I will be picking up some of this next.

Great review! One thing I hate about ONR washes is I can never seem to get my wash media completely clean again :(

Great review.

I am sad about the dilution ratio. I was hoping it would be the same as ONR.

Sadly I think that will make me not purchase this.

Thanks for the review!! I was debating on getting it, but I think I'll wait until I use up my DP rinseless wash.

Thanks for a great review and the photos. :xyxthumbs:

Yes, I've noticed the same. Glad its not just me.

(Still, ONR is a great product.)

Looks like an interesting product - a rinseless which doesn't alter gloss would definitely have its uses (and its fans). Too bad about the dilution - pretty much makes it twice as expensive as competing products, and even worse, they don't offer it in smaller sizes (for people who might want to test the product out).

With ONR ver 3 now available, along with Blackfire, DuraGloss, CG, and Megs offering new rinseless wash products, its almost impossible to be sitting on the bench at this point. The trend/demand is clear.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

Very cool Richard. I really like that fact that it doesn't have any gloss enhancers. This could possibly make it great for things like Permanon or LSP you don't want to modify.

Great review. The sudsing reminds me a little of CG's NR (Hose Free Wash). I do believe having to use double the typical dilution ratio of other NRs will affect sales.

But, nice to see a NR which does not add protection...just cleans.

Both of these statements really hit the nail on the head. Each product will have a place for me:

Meguiar's - when no gloss enhancements are wanted, not worried about which LSP to choose

Blackfire - when using Blackfire as my LSP

Duragloss - when using Duragloss as my LSP

ONR - most versatile for me at this point

CG - haven't tried but plan to

I honestly feel Meguiar's Rinse Free Express Wash is a great product to have on hand. This is one of those products that didn't leave me feeling like it was a waste of money.

Thanks for your insight. I am sold!

Thanks for the positive and very in depth review of this new product of ours!

We want to address a couple of things, though:

Regarding dilution ratio, we are going to be clarifying this in our new catalog and upcoming tech bulletin to reflect 128:1 dilution (1 oz per gallon) for heavy duty cleaning and 256:1 (1 oz per two gallons) for more routine cleaning. What we see in these images would be classed as more "routine" cleaning so the lower dilution ratio would have sufficed. We apologize for the oversight on the current label.

We're glad you noticed and commented on the very easy wipe off/drying of the product - that's something we really shot for and found to be superior to most similar products on the market. We intentionally left out the addition of any polymers or other protection here because we know a lot of mobile guys are moving toward this sort of wash system and don't want any poylmers, etc "getting in the way" of the correction steps they plan on doing as part of their service. D114 will allow them to thoroughly and quickly clean the vehicle prior to pulling out the DA or rotary, and not leave anything behind that might in any way hamper their initial correction steps.

As some of you might suspect, our consumer line Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere is closely related to D114 with the obvious exceptions of it being a spray on product (and therefore not suitable for cleaning a vehicle quite as dirty as you would clean with a "rinseless" product like D114) plus UWWA offers some pretty durable polymer protection that D114 is lacking - for the reasons stated above.

Those of you looking to use D114 as a clay lube or QD mist & wipe type product will, we suspect, start experimenting with it as such (as you guys are prone to experiment with all sorts of things, which we actually applaud!) but we haven't set in stone any dilution ratios for those processes as of yet.

Wow, thank you for the in depth response Mr. Stoops! That really answered every question that I had and I'm sure other people had as well. This product just became even more valuable to me! :props:

Mr. Stoops,

I follow MOL as well and knew as soon as I saw your name this was going to be a great response! Thank you for responding to this thread on behalf of Meguiars.

Based on your feedback, if I were using D114, I think I'll have a bottle mixed 256:1 for presoaking spots that are significantly dirtier than others, waiting a bit, then doing the rinseless wash at 128:1.

Again, thanks very much. It would be awesome if you chimed in on more Meguiars product discussion s:) Hey, can't blame me for asking...

Regards,

Jon

Jon, that plan including a bit of pre-soak is a great idea, and a pretty common one with other, similar products.

I'll try to chime in here a bit more often if I can, as long as the good folks at Autogeek don't mind ;)
