Hello all,

This is not going to be a full on review like some of the other users on this forum but I wanted to share my thoughts and observations on this product:

Mothers Back to Black Tire Renew, tire cleaner

First off, I am a big fan of waterless/rinseless washes with a slight favor towards rinseless washes because I feel "safer" and I feel I can get a better clean out of my vehicle.

Anyway, one "drawback" of doing rinseless washes is the lack of flowing water (of course), which means some products simply can't be used or can't be used safely. For example, I would not want to use any type of Iron-X product without a hose to throughly rinse off or some APC's for various surfaces.

Naturally, cleaning tires and wheels without a hose can be challenging but now with Mother's Back to Black Tire Renew, I feel I have all the tools to do an effective rinseless wash of wheels/tires.

Normally I would simply spray some waterless wash solution into a dedicated microfiber towel and rub with a bit of force to try and get the grime and old dressing off. I know I am not getting all of it off but since I am layering with the same water-base dress (in this case, Auto Finesse Satin Tire Gel), I don't really mind if I don't get ALL of the dressing off.

With the Mother's product, I spray it on, let it sit, and wipe it off. And let me tell you, the grime and dirt that comes off the tire is pretty amazing. The towel was basically black from all the crud previously stuck to the tire and the cleaner did a great job of getting it done. Right after I wiped the product away, the tire had a semi-dressed look with a matte finish. However, after I did the rest of the tires, the first tire looked "naked" in that there was no shine or sheen to it (at least to my eyes).

Now, the to the part where I knew something was different about using this cleaner versus using the waterless wash solution or even APC (OPC 3:1) for when I do full-hose washes, was in the application of the tire dressing.

Normally, the foam applicator spreads the product evenly and thinly, as it should. But when I spread the same dressing with the same applicator (which is still fairly new), the foam would "squeak" on occasion. It reminded me of how when plates are clean after washing them, they make the same sound.

I am not saying the squeak is 100% related to the "clean-ness" of the tire but it is interesting to have heard it.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this product for anyone wanted to do an effective tire cleaning with or without access to free-flowing water. Two thumbs way up.

I always do onr washes my vehicles. Found Mother's Tire Renew a few months ago it fits perfect with onr washes and does a great job cleaning.

I had posted a review a while back,..it still quick, easy to use, and works..no having to go back to clean it again.

Thanks for the link!

I'm glad to see people are enjoying this product since it does rock! My question is if this product leaves anything behind on the tire but if it's a heavy duty cleaner, I'm sure it wouldn't leave anything behind.

But that's just my assumption.

I haven't used the tire cleaner yet, but the trim cleaner sure leaves something behind.

Stephen and Al did great reviews of this product and they sold me on it, and frankly its the only tire cleaner i will use forever, it is that good, plus super easy to use, its the waterless wash of tire cleaners!

nice review!

Another tire cleaner to try. Based on another AG thread, I just tried Mothers Foaming Wheel & Tire Cleaner and it got an "F" for tire cleaning. Did ok on wheels but wouldn't even wash off a water based dressing.

Rsurfer - how did you use it? Was it just sprayed on the tire and hosed off, or was a brush used?

Used a generous amount, waited a minute to dwell, scrubbed vigorously with a tire brush and rinsed off. Gloss from old dressing still there. Tire was previously cleaned (2 weeks ago) with Amazing Roll Off and dressed with a water based dressing. Used Amazing Roll Off again and left with a clean tire.

Forrest asked me to help out as he's away from a computer...

My original reply is below as I was confused on which product we're talking about.

Foaming Wheel & Tire Cleaner does require a dry tire... was it dry?

If it was, is there a chance the product froze on your end? If not, it may have frozen in transport. Freezing can affect performance. Shoot me an email and I'll get you a fresh (unfrozen) bottle.

Back-to-Black Tire Renew is a product where following the directions is key. Read and follow the directions.

Simply put:
1. Adjust nozzle.

2. Spray and wait 15 seconds. Sometimes I'll use this time to wipe up any excessive overspray.

3. I then fold an old microfiber into quarters, and then again in half. Grasp it firmly and following the tire bead, wipe the sidewall slowly and thoroughly. I'll start top center to bottom right, then top center to bottom left, and then repeat in revers, overlapping myself.
It does not work right when you scrub with a brush and rinse as you did. It is different than anything else on the market. It works very well when used as directed.

I clean one tire at a time, followed by the wheel (with wash suds or wheel cleaner, or however you like). Then I move to the 2nd and 3rd and 4th.

For long-lasting results, and to avoid the blooming that some tires (like mine) tend to do, I now always put a dressing on the tire... usually our Protectant or our Reflections Tire Care (because I'm not a fan of shiny) or our Back-to-Black Tire Shine (when I feel like shiny).

I never found a "wheel & tire cleaner" that cleaned tires to my expectations. But, the Mothers Back to Black tire cleaner is awesome if used as directed.

I'm thinking the contaminants found on a wheel (dirt & brake dust) are likely too different from the contaminants found on an AGO'ers tires (old dressing) for a single cleaner to do both exceptionally.

While wheels can often be cleaned decently with any APC like substance, the porous substrate of a tire can be much more difficult to get perfectly clean.

I think most APC style wheel cleaners get most tires "clean enough" for most people. Slap some dressing on there and nobody is none the wiser.

Keeping raised white letters white seams to be a challenge when doing rinseless washes. Would this product solve that problem?

The level of customer service here is outstanding.

I've used this product and have had wonderful results with it. Hopefully a fresh bottle will take care of Rsurfer.

Again...hats off to Mothers
