Ok, at the fire station it's always good practice to clean our trucks so the public can admire what they pay for. The diamond plate on our trucks are clean but not always polished due to the tedious nature of doing it by hand. We always used a metal polish and a carpet, picked a section and went at it the best we could. To someone like me who loves this stuff enjoys doing it but most do not. This got me thinking, how can I make this easier for us with the limited supplies we have. So here we go.......

First I made a pad out of a old 4" pad, some carpet, and some contact cement.

Here is what we have other than my flex lightweight rotary.

After washing and drying the area it looked like this

This is from dirt and foam residue along with other things that get on fire trucks.

Then it was on to the MX7 plus water spot remover. I applied it with a spray bottle and let it sit for about a few minutes so it could devolve all the crud that was on the diamond plate. And it gave me this to start with.

Then I attached the pad to the rotary and applied some MX7 metal polish to the carpet

Made about 4 to 6 passes in sections and did about two coats and ended with this.

Personally I thought that the pad would blow up and fall apart but it actually held up quite well. I'm sure you could just put some velcro on the back of the carpet with some contact cement and it would work just as well. Then you could attach it to a drill or orbital sander because everyone doesn't have a DA or rotary at their respective stations. I'm happy with how it turned out and it took me only 20 - 25 minutes to do that.

I think the MX7 products work very well and I would recommend them to use on your vehicles paint for waterspots. I do and it works. So I hope my first review was worth the time it took you to read it. Aloha.

Very nice. Great idea to cut the carpet and paste it to an old pad.

Little bit of contact cement and boom. It's been a few months and one is still going. The other one I made hit a corner piece of metal and shredded a little. Still works though.
