Hello All,
As was promised to Meghan here is my review of the New Hydro-Tech 6.5" buffing pads that were provided to me by Meghan & AutoGeek. In this review I will also review the Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover Combo provided by me!
I was not feeling to well so I only did the hood of the test subject which is a Dark Metallic Blue 2003 GMC Yukon. This paint is in need of serious help.
Before
The process.
Wash with DP extreme foam
Clay with Meguiers clay and ONR clay lube
Buff the passengers side with Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover and LC CCS Orange 6.5" pad on a Griot's Radium Orbital setting 5.5.
Buff the Drivers side with WGTSR and the New Cyan Hydro-Tech pad o same machine
Polish with Wolfgang Finishing glaze driver side with the Tangerine Hydro-tech and the passenger side with the White CCS.
To be totally fair each side was done with 3 panel passes only! The results were remarkably close. Here are the pictures of the driver side and the passengers side following the Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover process only.
Driver side with Hydro-Tech's
Passenger side with LC CCS
If anything I thought the New HT Cyan pad seemed to "finish" a little better? One thing I did notice was it took less polish on the HT pads than on the CCS pads. I'm going out on a limb here but I'm thinking as much as 20% less. It seemed I could work a larger area with the HT pads than with the CCS pads without any danger of it drying out.
Another thing I noticed right away was the manufacturing Quality of the HT pads VS. the CCS pads. The CCS pads always seem to be out of round and just a little off and sloppy, the Hydro pads were very well manufactured and seemed to have much better quality control and were in fact round. I also like the contoured edges on the HT pads VS. the straight cut edges on the CCS pads.
One odd note (to me anyway) was that the Tangerine Pad in the HT line was stiffer to the touch than the Cyan pad. In the CCs pads it seemed the denser the foam the more cut, If I used these right the Blue (CYAN) was softer yet it is meant to be more aggressive. That being said I did not have any issue with the Cyan not cutting or the Tangerine not polishing out well. This paint was in major need and both the CCS and the HT pads preformed flawlessly (except that the CCS pads are out of round and a little harder to control close to edges because of it).
The finial polish was done on respective sides with the Tangerine and White pads using the Wolfgang Finishing Glaze. Both sides finished out very nice and I was totally pleased. Both side were polished again with 3 panel passes to keep it equal and after all was said and done I could not tell any difference in the finished paint. Again I felt the HT pad used less product and had a much less tendency to dry out. After the 3 panel passes I felt I could have kept working the product with the Hydro-Tech pads but felt I was all done with the CCS pads. Here is a poor picture of the tape line splitting the two sides after the complete process less LSP.
Also it must be noted that this was my first time using the Wolfgang Pair as well so I can't compare it to any past experiences. Also I must add that I was totally impressed with the Wolfgang Combo. If you could have seen this with your naked eye before and after it would have blown you away to know this was only a 3 panel pass project. I plan in the future to compare the WG products to some others I have when I finish this Yukon.
Here are the pads at the end of the project, you can see that the CCS pads seem to be more saturated than the Hydro-Tech pads. This was also evident when I cleaned them, much more cleaning was needed on the CCS pads over the HT pads.
The LSP that was used was DP MAX WAX and A final wipe with FK425. The results are very respectable. There are a couple of RIDS here and there but all in all it turned out very nice.
After LSP
Can't figure out how to turn this picture:doh:.......GOT IT YIPEE!
In closing I would think these Hydro-Tech pads are worth a try, I think the line needs to be expanded to say a gray AIO type pad, but for a 2 pad combo these are sweet. I felt they did what they are supposed to and kept the polish on the paint. I also really liked the high quality of the pad it's self, round not oval, very good hook and loop backing and the rounded edge gave better visibility of the working surface. I will give the HT pads two thumbs up :dblthumb2: & order the Hydro-Techs over the CCS in the future!
Also two thumbs up:dblthumb2: to the Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover Combo...I really like them and they are my favorite polishes to date.
I hope this review helps some out there.
I would like to thank Meghan and AutoGeek for the opportunity to try out and review these pads.
