Hey all, back when I stopped by the show car garage last month, Nick gave me a bottle of the re formulated PBL paint coating and asked me to review it. He explained the product as being designed to exhibit stronger water beading for the life of the coating versus the old version. He said it might be a bit more difficult to apply, but if you had used the v1 coating before you wouldn't notice that much of a difference.
I worked on this 2009 Mercedes e class wagon this week. I detailed this car at the end of 2013 and it hasn't really be worked on much since then.
Sorry for the lack of before pics, the sun was coming up, it was getting HOTTT and I wanted to get moving.
For reference, here's a before of a front wheel:
And after Sonax wheel cleaner and two rounds of iron-x
The car was heavily contaminated. I washed with iron-x snow foam and then sprayed it down with iron-x. Then I used a fine grade clay towel with onr as live. Here's the iron-x doing its thing
I pulled the car into the customers air conditioned garage (it was so hot out...)...
I went over it with the surface cleansing polish with a white pad on the Porter cable. Then applied the coating using a yellow foam applicator. I applied to panel 1 then panel 2, buffed off panel 1, applied to panel 3, buffed off panel 2, etc... I had no issues applying the coating. The high spots buffed right off and the paint felt super slick and looked super glossy.
I use Americoat on cars when people want something "exclusive" that not everyone can just go out and buy, but I still think the PBL coating is a much better bang for your buck. Great feel, great look, and a fair price for what you get.
Here are some afters
Thanks for looking, now go buy this stuff!
