Review: Poorboys Super Slick & Wax Car Shampoo
Introduction:
This is the second wash and wax I’ve used (both courtesy of Shane). Thank you for the samples Shane! Today I had a chance to wash a couple cars with it. I used 1 oz. per 2.5 gallons of water which is diluted slightly more than I should have. (I realized this later)
It was a cloudy morning, which was wonderful! I was able to completely finish my Sky and tuck her away in the garage before I got started with the PBSS&W.
Product Description (from AG website):
Poorboys has produced Super Slick & Wax in a limited supply. This car wash is just in time for winter car care when you need to get the most out of every detailing opportunity. A touch of wax has been added to the Super Slick & Suds formula to create a slicker gloss following washing.
Details:
1.- Packaging: N/A
2.- Directions: 1/2 oz. per gallon dilution
3.- Consistency: Thick
4.- Color: Yellow
5.- Scent: Mango or maybe Passion Fruit? I can’t figure it out for sure (Very nice but too subtle for such a great smell)
6.- Size: 16, 32, or 128 oz.
7.- Current Price: $9.99, $15.99, $39.99
8.- Manufacturer: Poorboy’s World
9.-Made in: Proudly made in the USA
Additional products used for prep, during application, or removal:
1.- (2) buckets with Grit Guards
2.- MF Wash Mitt (Carrand)
3.- Waffle Weave Towel
Method of Preparation, Application, and noted Observations:
After rinsing both cars and washing the wheels on one of them I set up a rinse bucket and a wash bucket. I mixed about 1.7 oz. of product into about 4 gallons of water (slightly less than I should have upon later discovery). Then I mixed the solution together with my arm and dropped the Grit Guard in. Finally, I circulated it a little more with a quick jet of water to activate the suds.
The sun was of no issue so I washed both cars simultaneously. First the roof and windows of each car were washed and rinsed. Next the hoods, trunk lids, and then the verticals were completed. I was curious to see the difference in the sealant by itself compared with after it had been washed with PBSS&W. Therefore I washed half of the hood and half of the lid on the blue car. Then I ran water across them and videotaped it.
Video: Non-Sheeting I
Video: Non-Sheeting II
As you can see the PBSS&W changes the sheeting/beading affect of the lsp. Further testing will be done to prove to that it is not actually removing lsp. I think some will assume that it is. However with a little logical thought I don’t believe that to be the case.
The cars were dried very easily with a waffle weave towel. This was a very good thing since the sun was starting to peak through the clouds. I think I dried both cars in a total of about five minutes! Usually it takes longer so I have to assume the PB SS&W had something to do with the water being entirely absorbed by the towel so much easier. I found this strange since that would appear to contradict the affect it had on sheeting…
While writing this review I contacted Shane and asked him the dilution ratio according to the bottle. He reported it to be 1 oz. per 2 gallons. Since I had diluted my solution more than I should have I mixed up a small batch with the correct dilution to re-tests my feelings on the lubricity and scent. I did not find a difference in either from what I had found with the mix that was used on the vehicles.

16.- After Blue
Pros:
1.- Cleans very good
2.- Seemed to add gloss
Cons:
1.- I’ve seen better lubricity
2.- Slows down the sheeting action of applied water
???:
1.- Changes the Sheeting/beading affect of the LSP (This is most likely a temporary affect) Its supposed to rain the next 2 days and that should give us some more insight.
2.- Rich creamy suds in the bucket but they don’t seem to last long or transfer to mitt
Final Observations and Summary:
I prefer this Wash & Wax to the Meguiars Ultimate Wash and Wax mainly due to these three factors:
Perceived superior cleaning ability
Overall look of the vehicles after being washed with it
Ease of drying the vehicles
However I didn’t like the effect it had on the sheeting/beading of the LSP that was on the blue car. Some might assume that it stripped the sealant but I don’t believe that to be the case. I believe that what "wax" this product leaves behind is what causes a difference in the surface tension. I will report back after doing some further testing with a stripped and freshly waxed 50/50 test panel. I also felt the lubricity left something to be desired. Personally I prefer a dedicated wash to a wash & wax however I enjoyed using this product more than I expected too. The scent is far too subtle for such a fine aroma.
