As many of you know i purchased a Subaru BRZ and it has been a blast to drive. Since I am starting to getting the mod bug I wanted something that would be easy to do so I decided the dealer got enough free advertisement from me and decided to replace the dealer frame for a Weathertech ClearCover License Plate Frame. After I a Weathertech ClearCover License Plate Frame I took a look at everything that was included and was very impressed it included Stainless Steel hardware that would be able to fit most vehicles. It is always good to have a friend help out to catch pieces that you do not want to scratch or lose. The Weathertech ClearCover License Plate Frame will protect the License Plate from getting bent, Bugs, and any kind of chips. You can choose from six different Frame colors I decided to go with the chrome since i figured it would look the best against the WRB (World Rally Blue) Paint. The Weathertech ClearCover License Plate Frame is made out Eastman Durastar Polymer which means it will not yellow over time, crack, or dull so it is virtually indestructible. The gasket seals that are used will keep the moisture out it also has a stepped lip so the license plate fits nice and snug. After the plate was installed i decided to give it a quick wipedown using the the Marine 31 Plastic Clear to remove any fingerprints that were from the installation.

With the Gasket going around the whole frame you do not need to worry about moisture getting in.

Having an extra set of hands helps to ensure you do not loose the Screw Covers and prevents them from being scratched.

This Stainless Steel hardware that would be able to fit most vehicles.

I laid out all the screws out to see which one was the closet match

The screw covers just snap back in.

I used the Marine 31 Plastic Clear to remove any finger prints that was on the plastic.

Look much better!:xyxthumbs:

Looks good. Much better than what was on there.

Re: Review: WeatherTech ClearFrame License Plate

Got one - give it a year or more in the sun and it will start to dull - and the plastic cover part will scratch just by looking at it. Very fine scratches but there nonetheless.

BTW: Clearcover, not clearframe!

Re: Review: WeatherTech ClearFrame License Plate

I unfortunately dealt with the same issue. The plastic faded quite badly in just one year. Loved the look initially and the Altec has been much more durable and still looks quite new after 2 full years of hot Florida sun.

Had one just like it, till a Tampa cop wrote me a ticket.

Ticket for what? Is it illegal to have that license frame? Feed back please. :buffing:

I designed these for my other favorite site. Can do it for the GEEKS if there is enough response and permission from Max and Yancy.

Some jurisdictions make it illegal to have a cover over the license plate. Also (although it does not appear to apply to this particular frame), a frame that covers any part of the lettering, numbers, or stickers on the plate can draw a ticket.

Bingo!

Also in Texas anything that covers any part of the plate provides probable cause during a traffic stop. Any plastic cover is a fine as well. Got to love those laws that protect the toll road owners so they get their .50.

Same here in Illinois. I got pulled over for having a clear cover on my rear. That led to the nice officer to test the legality of my tints (which are 100% legal). The officer all but accused me of trying to hide my plates so I could avoid paying tolls (even though I have a etoll transponder) .
Needless to say, I took the cover off and threw it away.
