Review: Wolfgang Über Wheel Cleaner

Wolfgang Uber Wheel Cleaner, color changing wheel cleaner

I was first going to use this cleaner on one of our newer cars, but both those cars have less than 20k miles and the wheels really haven’t seen much abuse. So I decided to use it on my 2001 Acura TL, since getting the newer car the TL has been on the back burner when it comes to cleaning and upkeep. The wheels have not been cleaned properly in 4 to 5 years (minimum) and the barrels never. Car with over 171k miles has seen everything was heavy rain in Florida for 10 years to 2 solid winters of snow and salt here in West Virginia.

I cleaned the wheels couple of weeks ago with Blackfire Waterless, so there was not much brake dust none the less the wheels are still dirty. To clean the wheels I used coupe of carrand brushes, dried with my wheel towels, and applied one coat of Wolfgang Deep Gloss Liquid Seal.

First the before shots, the face of the wheels weren’t too bad just some dust, and junk. The barrels on the other hand are awful, they have never been cleaned.

After the wheels cooled, working one at a time I sprayed the face and the barrels and let it sit for about a minute; cleaned the barrels first then the face of the wheel.

15seconds after spraying

After some serious agitation its purple!!!!!

Now that the wheels are clean I dried the wheels and applied one coat of WG Deep Gloss Liquid Seal.

Final Thoughts: I have only used a handful of wheel cleaners and this one is by far the best I have tried. I was surprised how easily it broke up the brake dust in the barrel and that white junk I had on my calipers. My next invest should be a Daytona brush. I was a true believer in another wheel cleaner that was acid based, but with this being non-acid I will be using this 3 to 4 times a year. Also a note on the scent, I’ll be honest I expected it to be a lot worse, I was expecting it to smell similar to iron x. But luckily it didn’t, the smell wasn’t strong and much more tolerable than TRIX or X.
Enjoy and feel free to ask questions

Nice review!

I like the way the product sat and didn't appear to just run off like so many we see. Another striking characteristic is the tell-tale purple, very similar to Carpro's Iron-X.

The wheels came out great! :props:

Looks like another winner. It appears I'll finally get a weekend w/o rain & some time to use the new WG products this weekend. :)

Great review. I am looking forward to getting this combo to try out myself.

Great review. Can't wait to give this a try.

Very similar to Sonax Full Effect as well.

I never tried Sonax, might have to give it a try.

It's definitely worth checking out. It tends to be a bit pricey, however I am yet to find a product that works as well; especially on German car brake dust.

Well almost after 6 month I get a pm on AF from a buddy of mine....

"read your review and ordered the kit. looks like a great product. looking foward to trying out their tire gel also. the kit just seemed like a good value to me.

dave"

"damn you! you just made me spend more money! i looked at the kit and ordered it! seems like a good value for the kit. "

Sorry Dave:) I can call your wife and take full responsibility for thisIm the MAN

Yeah SONAX pretty much rules this market. It's expensive but nothing else really works quite like it.

I'm going to try this product. Will it be available in big bottles like SONAX?

Sonax is 16.9 oz right. This is about the same.

Is this stuff really worth it over buying SONAX..i mean SONAX is already cheaper and with the deal of 3 for $30 I cant see this being worth the price of $20 a bottle.

Since I have not used Sonax I can not say. I know Sonax is amazing stuff from what I have heard and read. At the end of the day we are all driven by the price, I know the WG goes on sale often and have seen it on BOGO many times.

So when you need a wheel cleaner try whats on sale, but sale or not I know the WG works really well.

Still liking it BIGBULL?

Cant complain, just used TRIX for the first time and I like WG better. The day I used TRIX it was a cool day and it seemed to dry a lot quicker than WG. Then again TRIX is a decon and doesn't really have cleaning power like WG.

I bought this product on BOGO to clean neglected wheels and really like it in situations where Griots Wheel Cleaner is just not enough.

I would still like to try SONAX as well though.

Do you guys know if Uber/Sonax are safe to use with each wash? I know they are both PH neutral.
