For the past few years, I have been applying my tire dressing with an air gun. It works amazingly well and I have been asked repeatedly about what air gun I use, what product, etc. I had been asked recently to do a video showing the method. Well, now that my detailing season is done for the year I had time to do it today. How did I start doing it this way? To give credit where credit is due, Chris Thomas from Optimum first turned my onto this. They of course have their own Optimum gun that they'll sell you for like $50. I found one that works well for less than $20.

So what do you need to have to use this method?
1) Air Compressor
2) Suitable Air gun (I detail that in the video)
3) Tire Dressing
4) Tire Dressing foam applicator (to even it out or level it)

Here is the exact same gun that I bought at Princess Auto in Canada. They no longer sell it. I have however found it listed on ebay. Here is a listing for one currently for sale by a seller called Winning Choice:

You can experiment with the settings on the gun for the flow or volume you shoot out as well as how close to the tire you hold it. The further away you are increases the risk of getting overspray onto the wheel. In the video I say that I use Opti Bond at 100% (not cut at all). I really like it that way. I was using Duragloss Wet Shine prior to that. I could dial back the volume on the gun for it as it was a more watery consistency vs the thick consistency of the OB. I did find however that the DG would make a bit of a cloud while shooting it...especially if you shoot the wheel wells as well.

Anyway, I've tried to preemptively answer the questions I usually get when I mention this method, but feel free to ask if the above information and the video don't clarify things. Enjoy...

It's 2:38 am & I kicked my girl out to watch this video (sort of)....It was worth it because I never saw anyone actually apply dressing like this.

Nice demo.

Been doing the same thing probably with the same gun for years now. Sprayed 303, perl, UTTG and a lot of duragloss thru it. Uses less product but it gets to all those areas that are usually a pain with the typical applicators. I usually have the air pressure set at 10 on the regulator.

What kind of foam applicator did you use?
