I purchased a new Ridgid 4 Gallon Shop Vac and while I was at Home Depot I noticed they had a Ridgid Auto Detailing Kit so went ahead and grabbed it too. It came with a few hose attachments but the attachments that came with the shop vac do not fit the hose that came with the kit. Anyone ever used one of these kits? Wondering if there is an adapter to use the other attachments that came with the Vac.

That vacuum you bought accepts 1 7/8th” accessories. Those accessories are among the least compatible of all sizes. That’s 1 of the main drawbacks of that vacuum that no one ever talks about.. I have the 16 gallon Ridgid that came with the Auto Detailing Kit and I’m able to use all the accessories since they all fit perfectly.

Oh wait... You can buy this set of adapters which will let you connect all the accessories to 1 hose, but it’ll connect to your original hose, not the orange hose.

I really like the 10' orange hose. 10' is a good length for working in a car, too vs the standard 6' host. The smaller diameter means higher velocity air flow so it is able to suck more dirt and grid in proximity to the head you are using, be it the crevice tool or wand. That is a real nice kit. The hose is much more stout than the standard, flimsy black hoses.

With all due respect, that is not true. It’s been discussed before and I even called Ridgid CS and asked them that very same question and they confirmed it. You do not get higher velocity or stronger suction from a smaller diameter hose vs. a larger hose. Call them and ask.

Not only did they confirm, but I’ve done several tests with the 2.5” hose vs. the 1.25” orange hose and it’s not even close, the 2.5” hose easily outperforms the orange hose in every way except flexibility.

From experience, I believe Eldo is right. My old Craftsman with the standard large diameter hose feels like it has much more suction than my Rigid with the 10’ orange hose. I will say the smaller, longer, more flexible hose makes vacuuming a car much easier.

If I’m vacuuming the vehicles here at home, the orange hose is nice because I can place the vac at 1 side of the vehicle and have it reach all the way across to the other side without having to move the vac over.. But if and when I’m going to detail a full on grimy vehicle with serious dirt I don’t even bring the orange hose. It’s straight to the big guns and that means the black 2.5” hose.

The original attachement may not work with your new hose, but the kit comes with the brushes you need anyways. You should have a crevice tool, 2 brushes (one stiff for carpet and 1 soft for fabric and pannels). The might be other ones in the kit as well I do not remember since I only use those 3. What attachment did you want to use that is not available with the auto detailing kit?

Thanks fellas for the info. I was hoping to just have one hose and be able to use the extensions that come with the vac whenever I needed them for home repair work and around the garage. I'm not a detailer by any means but I do try and keep up my own vehicles. I use to have a 16 gallon vac but it just took up to much space in my garage so wanted something smaller. If I need to keep both hoses I will.

Yes they .make an 1.25" hose your shop vac probably came with a 2" hose. My detailing kit came with it.

Look around on amazon for the diffrent adaptors

I have the same hose kit and vacuum. It took me a bit to figure out how to make the wide / fan attachment fit. Everything but the wide / fan attachment fit perfect to the hose end, use the soft flexible rubber adapter which is wide on one end and narrower on the other on that fan attachment, then connect both to the hose end. It allows the wide / fan attachment to swivel too.

If you try an put the fan attachment directly on the end of the hose it keeps working its way off, which is a real PIA.
