I recently noticed that my 2014 mazda has a couple rockchips on the hood that take the shape of a pimple. When you run your finger along them, it sticks out.

Is this a normal rock chip or should I be concerned? I always thought of rock chips chipping off paint, not extending the paint out.

I have it on my car too.. Thought want to touch up > wetsand > opti coat

Anyway waiting for more suggestions here..

The cool thing about the paint repair kits is that you use the solution along with a cloth to smooth the bump down. so if you mess up, you can just wipe it clean with the solution. Be prepared to polish after the paint cures. I'm not sure How long it takes in the cooler months

Thanks guys!

Wet sanding prior seems like a good idea. I believe zainJR suggested it because our rock chips currently aren't flush with the paint. They stick out a tiny bit like a pimple. Or at least mine does haha.

Wonder if taking a safer route like taping off area, then use rubbing compound by hand to bring the paint flush again, would be affective. Obviously the more time consuming option lol.

Please take a close-up photo

Put your fingertip next to the defect to give your camera something to focus on

I'll take a close-up when I get home. It's like a tiny chip but around it, is a tiny bump. So it's not flush with the paint and sticks out a tiny bit.

It's not by any means serious damage. There's like 3 of them, but it just seemed odd because rock chips usually just chip and go below paint.

I seen a lot of chips that are very tiny, but they've allowed water to get under paint and begin to rust, causing the bubble

And this is what scares me lol. The potential of it spreading. The chip is actually white, which is a good sign i would think.

Best idea is to just put touch up paint to close it up?

I had one like that on my truck. The spot is still there as there are no rust issues where I live. My take on the bubble part is that the color coat did not adhere to the primer which is why the bubble. The bubble on mine is long gone with no more damage occurring past that area although the touch up area will be slightly larger. My recommendation would be to get rid of the bubble (not adhering to the primer) then scuff the existing primer and touch up. One of these days I will pick up a pint of paint and reducer and fix mine with my air brush.

Thanks! I have a couple of them. Maybe it was raining when the rock chips occurred.

Might have to wetstand because the tiny bubbles are very hard. I'll snap a better photo shortly.

If the bubble is well defined you may use an xacto type blade to score around and remove the bubble before trying to sand the rest of it flush. Just a suggestion.

Looks quite small. Get rid of the bubble and any paint edge not flat and probably as others have said Dr color chip. I would think at it's size it will come out very well.

It appears that the rock pushed back on the paint and peeled it up. What you're looking at is the part of the paint that didn't fall out on it's own. You would want to trim that lifted part out prior to making a repair.

Feel like you're probably right on with this. Would if be safer to wait for it to fall out on its own?
