Hello everyone I'm brand new to the forum! I ordered a 2014 Camaro 1LE and received it 1/13. Unfortunately On the day it was delivered it was snowing and salt covered the car! The dealer sprayed the car down but didn't was it per my request as they use a automatic wash that has bristles that spin on your car! O should add the dealer hosed it down Saturday and I picked it up Monday! I took every precaution I know of and followed mike Philips "how to detail a new car" thread but what I have is water spots I'm unable to remove I tried re washing and pinnacle paintwork cleansing lotion.. They don't appear to be etched into the paint though... I also have water spots on the matte vinyl hood that I can't take care of with soap water and chemical guys meticulous matte detail spray! And my last issue is with very fine scratches like swirls on one fender and run down the body towards rear of car in a straight line I never dried my car like that so I think someone did at the factory maybe? Also has a few larger scratches on the front end and what looks like a hole in clear coat but I'll tackle that later. Sorry to carry on but does anyone have a recommendation on a polisher/ product to use to remove the spots and swirls keeping in mind I've never used one!
I'd be dealing with the clear coat issue and the scratches with the dealer first in case it might require a re-paint. They have a great ability to blame the owner for something like that when they come back months later to complain.
Once those issues are resolved, then I'd take it to a detailer.
Good luck getting the dealer to fix it... Since the day i got my car i have been crazy about keeping it looking better then the day i got it. One trip to the dealer to get the trans serviced and it came back looking like it was washed with steel wool... I was beyond pissed and still to this day it pisses me off. I talked the the service manager who had ME talk to their "car washer" he claimed he didnt do it and that the scratches that covered my whole car were old. I was furious! so I talk back with the service manager and he set me up and appointment with the general manager and this guy was no better then the car washer... He too was saying that i caused the scratches. I have never been so insulted. Tried to file a claim with my insurance company and it was $1,700 in damages. So i was going to have insurance take care of it but the sh!tty shop were scam artist and gave my insurance a bill under the price of my deductible so my insurance wouldnt cover it and id pay it out of pocket which would make them more money... I wanted to sue every one. Instead i took matters into my own hands and fixed it my self. If i were you id just buy a porter cable wolfgang duo with the lake country pad kit and fix it your self. if nothing less make it look 100X better. But i do encourage you to make the dealer fix it and see how far it goes.
I know for a fact that they don't have anyone who can fix the swirls I met the Detailer there and he's no more that 18 and told me "I take these brand new cars and make them shine like they are brand new" that's when I decided not to have him touch it... The swirls I won't mess with I have a few cars that could use a buffing and don't mind buying the supplies. I'm going to talk to them about the imperfection though
Yeah the dealership that gave me my dealer installed swirl option told me " if you look at all the cars on the lot they all have these scratches. Its just the nature of black cars" i was like well then what does that tell you.. obviously youre doing something wrong. God i hate the scum bags at a dealership... Not saying every one who works at a dealership is a scum bag im just addressing the scum bags that work there...
By the way just to put that dealership on blast It was Carson City Dodge in Carson City Nevada. I originally went in becasue my trans went out. Not only did they screw up my paint but it took them three times to fix it (them calling me saying its done i go in and soon as i drive off the lot its still messed up.. oh not to mention they tried charging me every time) but when they finally figured it out i was driving to southern ca with my 2 year old son who HATES long drives and it went out again. I dropped it off at tuttle click dodge in irvine and had to leave it there while i rented a car to make it back home. A few weeks later i get a call from tuttle click dodge and apparently Carson City Dodge put a clip in backwards and it popped out. Which acted like a bomb in my trans...
So for any one that might live in the northern nevada area DO NOT GO TO CARSON CITY DODGE!!!!
