Hey guys, I'm looking to replace some old backing plates for my Makita 9227c but can't decide which brand of plates to go with. I need a 3" & 6". For those of you that have multiple brands, tell me which brand you prefer and why.

I have 3M, Meguiar's, Flex, and Lake Country.

I actually like them all but one thing I prefer is they be somewhat flexible. A backing plate must be rigid enough to properly support the pad but also soft enough to follow the contours of the panel.

While I listed the Flex above I haven't tried it out yet but it does look very promising. I'm intrigued by the flexible foam layer and this could be my new favorite pad.

I like the Meguiars line of backing plates . With the extra cushion and support they give pads that is the reason I use them

I am a big fan of the 3M backing plate. For the small one I use a Lake Country.

Any of the Lake Country Flexible Backing Plates work real nice,

This one is real nice if you want lots of flex for using 5.5" pads

The Meguiar's W66 Solo Backing Plate is real flexible too...

Thanks guys for the responses. I think I'll order a variety of brands since your recommendations suggest that they're all worthy and capable of getting the job done.

I use the 3m backing like the one in my signature. It is the best in my opinion. The Megs W66 is very good also if you like 6.5" pads

The Flex-Foam backing plate is nice for the price, but not as soft like the 3m 09553 Perfect-it plate.

Yeah, I think I'm going to try one of the W66 because I have a ton of 6.5" pads.

I've heard nothing but the best things about the 3M 09553 5" BP. It's definitely pricey, but real nice.
