Considering the amound of dust and gunk that our machines are exposed to, does anyone periodically take their rotaries apart to clean/service them. Is this something that should be done, and if so, are there any general tips out there for the process? Mine was bought used, so I'm assuming it needs to be done.

I have a 5 year old Makita that was used 6 days a week on boats and cars. It still runs perfectly. I've replaced the cord a few times and used that opportunity to clean out the vents and crevices.

My PE-14 is my baby and gets it's own detail after every detail.
APC on the polisher body and DP interior cleaner on the power cord.

Most rotary polishers will last a very long time, not uncommon to have 10 year old polisher running strong with zero maintenance.

just like always, depends on how much the tool is used for how often it needs cleaned.

tear down for mine includes dismantle, cleaning with wd-40, a touch of white lithium grease and replacement of brushes if needed; followed with a wipe down of 303 after re-assembly.
