Hi,
Well I just tried using my brand new Makita Rotary. I have a ton of questions. First, the backing plate that came with this rotary is huge. I have the Lake country white, orange, and green CCS pad, and Meguiars yellow (8006) pad. Do I have to change my backing plate for these pads to work right? It seems as though I am not getting the results I should be getting. Do they sell a smaller backing plate for these pads for the rotary? Also, when I try polishing a panel out, with Meguiars M80 speed glaze and the Lake country white pad, I get alot of holograms and not all the scratches come out. Can anyone give me any techniques on how to use the rotary? Any pad and product combonitations would be greatly appreciated? Also how much product should I be applying onto the pad to buff out a panel? Sorry for so many questions but it seems as though I can do the polishing alot quicker with my PC than the rotary, and I know that isn't right. Any information would be great. Thanks

I would like to know the same thing. I have the Edge2K system, works great with my PC. But not the best for my rotary.

Hi Peter W. not sure if your new (the number of posts suggest you are) but first of all welcome to the forum.

Congrats on the Makita. As for the backing plate it came with, I personaly don't use it. I got my self a few backing plates 7, 6, 5 and 4 inch plates. The reason I got my self so many backing plates is because I prefer using 5 to 6 inch pads but sometimes I have to use 4inch pads and even 8inch pads. AutoGEEK has all the backing plates you will need. I got my self a really good backing plate and I noticed a big difference when it came to polishing.

I've never used Meguiars M80 speed glaze but I have used lots of Lake Country pads and it's interesting how your getting holograms from the white pad...mmm...Speed Glaze mmm...it shouldn't have any cutting properties but like I said I've never used it...I'm assuming you clayed the vehicle prior to the glaze. As far as how much product to use, small little dots...well to prime the pad you'll need a little extra but I would say two quarter size dots should do just fine.

Well hope this helps a little, I'm not expert but I've been using my Metabo for abit now and I'm pleased with the results I have been achiving. Oh..one more thing, the rotary is very much pad and product dependent. I find that I don't really need agresive cutting pads....but it all depends on what your trying to achive and how much paint correction you will be doing.
