The Flex PE14 is a very nice tool, but the Makita isn't too far behind.

That flex was very light, and easy to maneuver. Smoothest running tool I ever owned as well.

X2!

You won't regret either. I sold my 849x to buy a 9237c. Great decision IMO. Then I caught the FLEX bug and had to get a PE14. Another great choice!

Both the Makita and the PE14 are fantastic. Flex is just easier to operate and a little more quiet.

A full size will really excel on boats, as spinning a 8.5" pad all day requires more torque, but is a little more cumbersome on smaller areas. Also, the added 1.5 Lbs doesn't seem like a lot of weight difference, until you're 6 hours deep on cutting a full size, long bed Chevy!

I'd say if price isn't a factor- PE14. If it is and you don't mind a larger machine- 9237c!

Good luck!

I too like the Flex and Makita, can't go wrong with either. My buddy has the DeWalt and it's also a nice tool, I like the rubber coating and seems to run a little cooler than the Makita.

PE14 will be a nice addition to your 3401.

I started off with the 849x and later down the road picked up the PE14. Knowing what I know now, I would have just bought the PE14 from teh get go. There is no comparison between the other machines to the PE14 in terms of weight and maneuverability.

Thanks Mike, I've been seriously thinking about the 849x. Your response helped decide on the PE14
