The rubber window trim on my truck is looking hazy and dull (just got a used truck) in the past I have used a rag and goo gone and scrubbed them until they looked a little better on other cars, what is the best way to clean these pieces around the windows.

Every couple weeks when you wash it use a toothbrush and some griots rubber cleaner or equiv. to scrub the window seals. Then use some 1Z gummi or 303AP to dress them. Over time they will get better and better.

I use to foam the whole car with my gun and then while letting it dwell I'd hit the window seals as mentioned. Then rinse the car off and get to my regular mitt washing of the car.

I followed that regime for awhile and the seals look really good now. Recently I used Ultima T&TGP to dress them and they look twice as good as they ever have before. Unlike other surfaces the UTTG actually added some gloss to my window seals.

I currently use Meguiars M-40. I just ordered some Poorboys Trim Restorer which also has gotten good reviews. The M-40 seems to wear off after a few rain storms.

I recently tried Opt Power Clean on the exterior rubber trim to remove build up. It took a lot of black off the rubber and trim. I used Megs 40 which doesn't last long but it does clean rubber. I used OG ERV as well. I finally picked up 303AP and it really picked up the black trim and rubber of a Ford Escape that I rejuvenated over the weekend. I used the OPC to clean the rubber.

I bought some Zymol Seal for my soft door moldings instead of the 1z. The zymol may work but it is pain in the neck to use as it feels like Glycerin and drips if you are not careful. I end up applying it with my fingers then wipe if down in 20 minutes or so.

Pics would help but I've used KAIO a lot to restore oxidized looking rubber window trim.

I used Wolkgang's vinal and rubber dressing this weekend on the outside rubber seals around the side windows and it looks great. I don't know about longevity, we'll see.

I was unhappy with the Griots Rubber Cleaner on my tires but I bet it would be fine for my rubber seals. Great suggestion!

IME Kurt has the right prep with OPC or a good APC. I applied to a MF but terrycloth would work fine and rubbed the exterior seals with a good bit of force. The notorious XLR seals went from a dull grey to black after an hour or so each. Ultima works far better than any other trim rrestore product including Poor Boys, so I believe Corey got the second part of the equation. You want to tape off the paint or reseal/wax after APC.

Scrub the area with an all purpose cleaned, let dry, and use either Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant or Poorboy's World Trim Restorer.

Bobby the key word is SCRUB. Megs UP is very good IMO. Nothing works better than it on running boards and it isnt slippery at all.

+1 on T&TGP. Also Black Again works great on soft and hard black surfaces

Jim,
Are you turning into an Ultima fan too? First Corey, then another convert??? :)

Corey has me going in the same direction.

I used 303 for a long time to keep them looking nice until I found that wherever I got WG sealant on them by accident they looked great! So that's what I use now. LOL

I've used 303 to get haze off of them too. I don't know if it "comes off" or if the 303 just feeds them something that turns it black again, but it worked.

I agree. Meguiar's really nailed this one with it's new Ultimate Protectant....:props:

Kurt i have been one since June 09 when I bought UPGP. The only average product they sell is the Detail Spray IMO. I got the Interior Protectant but havent tried it yet. Car Wash is my favorite! UT&TG is too! The new Waterless is top shelf along with OOC IMO.
