Rubbing Alcohol on Non Tinted Windows

I have continued to use just Diluted Rubbing Alcohol to clean vehicle windows(non tinted) on about 10 cars now(including my own).
It cuts through just about anything on the windows, and leaves no streaks at all.

Im sold on using it.

Does anyone else do this? And for what reasons(besides tinted windows) would you not use it?

i rarely use glass cleaner these days (wipe the exterior windows with whatever i'm wiping the paint down with) and if i do it will be for the interior/inside windows. i've used a handful of different window cleaners and this (IG) has always worked well for me. if you're using RA and there's no ill effects (long term) then keep using it...

And for what reasons (besides tinted
windows) would you not use it?

•IPA/Rubbing Alcohol:
-It's pretty daggone flammable
-It's a Sensitizer (Contact Dermatitis, etc.)
-It's an Irritant (eyes, lungs, for example)

I used to work at a place that fabricated led signs and they had us using denatured alcohol to clean the acrylic and glass. All we used was rolls of industrial paper towels but it left the glass perfect and never a streak.

I'm sure there's a good reasons to use denatured alcohol vs. what you're currently using, besides what Bob already mentioned.

My main reason would be because its rubbing alcohol. Why would I use it? If it was a good idea to use it to clean windows It would be called window cleaner.

@Willowcat. Didn't you once mention how IPA nearly ruined the plastic etc. on the dashboard when you tried it on there?

Which particular window cleaner made you never want to use window cleaner anymore?

I have used my IPA mix..50/50 or even eraser on windows. Works amazingly well.

But my go to is still Stoners. Can't beat invisible glass.

Carpro eraser to de grease then follow up with PBW GC. Stoners is over hyped (in my opinion) =)

So that's ethanol with additives to make it unappealing to drink.

Well...rubbing alcohol is IPA (as Bob already mentioned)...which is the main active ingredient in most automotive glass cleaners (why? because it doesn't affect aftermarket tinted windows like the ammonia in Windex does). The issue here is using "straight" (IPA at retail is never "straight" = 100%, it's always at some dilution) IPA vs. the fairly small amount that is in a window cleaner.

Yes, When used directly on the Vinyl, it did have some damaging effects. After using WOLFGANG Cockpit Sealant a number of times on those spots, I was able to get rid of, or cover up what damage was done.

ive never had a problem with very diluted accidental overspray though. Plus when doing the Windows, I Spray the towel instead of the window on inside windows, to avoid those problems.

I went with the IPA, over the normal window cleaners because when applying interior Protectant on Vinyl edges around windows I accidentally was getting Protectant on the edges of the windows. If I was being way more careful, I could avoid getting it on the Windows in the first place. I also wanted to renew the Rubber around the exterior of the Windows also, and was getting that on the Windows also. IPA was able to Cut that off the Windows much better that regular glass Cleaner.
