Rupes 21 counterweight rusting

Hi guys, I have a Rupes 21 MK2 and I like to take off the backing plate every week or so and lubricate the shroud and backing plate. but these last 3 weeks the counterweight has started to become very rusted. I try to clean the rust off with a MF towel and a tiny bit of rust removing gel and it comes out nice. but I am worried about the rusting. Any ideas as to what I can do?

Use a small amount of Mothers to polish it. It will also leave protection behind which should prevent that rust from coming back.
