i have a question about the rupes orbital sanders. i am looking to adapt the randum orbit design for sanding wood bowls on my lathe. i can see in the pics how everything goes together, but i want to know if the orbit attachment is free spinning? thanks in advance for any info.

They are indeed free spinning.
The LHR12E Duetto was actually designed as both a sander and a polisher.
There are no dust vacuum options available though. For orbital palm sanders, look into their Skorpio line. They have 3, 6, and 9mm orbit strokes available.
