Rupes blue cutting pads

used it for the first time the other day. the fibres seem to lay down quickly and it's very difficult for me to fluff them back up compared to other cutting pads.

anyone else have any tips for them?

i should mention that the results came out great though

(4", used 3 drops of menzerna fg400)
 
Do you have compressed air to clean the pads?
 
I was about to say, compressed air, but I also want to point out that because these are so open, they tend to degrade fairly quickly. I know I ate thru two 3" blue ones really fast and had to order more.

Have you tried the green pads? Those are a great pad.

no compressed air.

i should have bought the blue foam pads for cut!
 
Mine lay down in the middle, but not so much at the edge. Are you "seasoning" the pad with product, prior to adding your working product?

I use a pad conditioning brush to fluff the fibers back up, with the machine turned off.

I've also had great results with these pads using m105.

nope. didn't prime it.
I read here you don't have to prime Rupes pad, but that's with the Rupes system. I use the foam pads with menzerna without priming though and it works great.

I'll try a squeeze of spray wax next time

With the foam, they don't need priming, but the microfiber pads benefit from it. It also works at it's optimum if it's primed using the compound.

I also believe that the fibers laying down like that is a natural function of the pad. I can't remember what company's pads this was in reference to, but I want to say it was Rupes.
 
the entire point of using MF pads on DA machines is to significantly increased surface area of the pad and in turn abrasives.

As the pad oscillates and spins it flips and turns each individual fiber which is supposed to be coated with abrasives. Which will increase cut significantly.

You are doing yourself a disservice by not priming a MF pad.

I would love to hear Rupes theory on "their" MF system which does not include priming the entire pad with product before its first use.

I don't believe Rupes ever made that claim for their microfiber pads.

In both instances, I've gone off what Mike Phillips did in his videos featuring the both types of pads. He primed the Rupes MF discs, but not the foam.
