Rust on a less than 1 year-old car?

I was giving my new (purchased last Summer) RAV4 a quick waterless wash the other day when I found something that surprised me: a spot where the finish may have caught a rock or something, that is rusting.

I've got a few other paint chips also where I guess my poor baby's skin got assaulted by a random airborn pebble, but they're either white (beneath the black paint) or perhaps metal gray, but only this one chip has rust and it's got me worried. Dunno if location makes any difference but it's located along the passenger-side windshield post (I know there's prolly a correct name for that part but I don't know it). I thought it kinda odd that of all places where extra moisture might cause the chances of rust to bloom, this just wasn't one of them: that area of the car is verticle more or less and one of the first spots to dry.

I'm going to have to take a look at the warranty, but does anyone know if a rust spot like that would typically be covered?
I've gotta figure out what to do with this so any advice is greatly appreciated.

If the paint is chipped in that area then warranty will not cover it as it has compromised the rust protection, paint and primer. Best way to take care of it is to clean the rust in chip and apply touchup paint to the area so it does not come back. You could apply a primer, color coat as I think there are some touchup systems like that.

Thanks AG.

After looking into this a little further I think I'll start with this:

And then hit it with some Dr. ColorChip.

Either the other chips aren't as deep and didn't make it throught the primer coat or else they are on a bumper or some type of plastic panel.

Bring it too the dealer don't say anything just act like you have no idea how it happened. Let the dealer tell you it's not covered before you attempt any repair .

I agree with Adam here but be prepared to have them install the Dealer Installed Swirl Option if you leave it with them for repair. I think Adam's point is to not give them any reason to void your paint warranty.

If you are going to do the repair yourself you may want to look into this product as it is geared more for automotive use and has been proven in body shop settings for decades.

Before anyone else gives more advice on what he should do take a look at the date of the first post ;)

Oh great all that work for an old post that wasn't even updated .Thanks Dwyane at least someone here has some working eyes lol

Thanks for the replies!

I took the truck to the stealer and they said it was a paint chip and my warranty does not cover it. They quoted me almost 2K for two little spots.

I should just start my own thread with some pics so you all can see what I am talking about.

Can you use Mar-Hyde® One-Step® Rust Converter and not put a top coat on it? Any one use this stuff before? I used this stuff called Naval Jelly once for some rust under the hood. Is this stuff like that?

Found another little spot by the black stripping on top of the cab, frustrating.

Enough for now. Will take some pics tomorrow and start a new post. I hope you to see you there!

Thanks,
Dave

This is not like Naval Jelly. It chemically converts ferrous oxide(rust) to something else.
