Every time I wash my car, the breaks always rust over and look all ugly orange behind the squeaky clean rims. Anyone have any tips to prevent the brake rotors from rusting after a wash? I really would like to avoid removing the wheels every time I have to wash the car.

Hydes Serum Rust Stopper is a product, although I would just go out for a quick spin and use the brakes.

I mean the rust goes away right after I pull out of the drive way lol but you know right after detailing it and its sitting in the garage all perfect and spotless. Its kinda a eyesore to see rusty brakes. Does the Hyde rust remover go on clear so I can kinda spray it behind the wheel without removing it? Or am I gonna have to jack my car up?

From the product page:

Hyde’s Serum Rust Stopper couldn’t possibly be any easier to use. First, make sure the brake rotor has been thoroughly cleaned. Before it has time to dry, spray an ample amount of Hyde’s Serum Rust Stopper directly onto the rotor. Wipe away any excess liquid inside the wheel, and that’s it!

oh cool bean, thanks man. So just out of curiosity, anyone have a method that doesn't require Hydes? IM just curious as to different ways to do it at this oint. Im problably gona get Hydes

I just pulled of my rotors and taped off the swept surface and painted the rest with high temp gray metallic paint.
The swept area may rust but returns to a nice polished metal surface as soon as you apply the brakes. The paint keeps the un-swept area nice and finsihed.

Just take the car and drive it properly drying off the brakes.

Slightly press accelerator and push break. Get them clean immediately. Easy, too.

The annoying thing is that the rust turns to dust and gets all over your freshly cleaned wheels as your drive off...

The joys of detailing :D I didn't notice, or care about stuff like this until I got my sports car. I honestly don't know if I ever thought about the rusty breaks on my Camry after washing it. But my new car? After I wash it's all I see lol.

My Evo is a brake dust wh!#e with the stock pads I can't wait to change them out. My brakes get this rust terribly then squeak constantly when halting for the next day, then a slight version of this even when it rains. It drive me NUTS!!!!

I use my Makita cordless blower. If you dry the rotors before it dries..no rust.

i do use a blower on the wheel and the jams. anywhere water could accumulate. But the rust still appears

Are you drying soon after washing? If not, even a few minutes will create rust to form on the rotors.

literally rinse off everything, hop in drive forward about 10 feet shut the door and blow the wheels and jams. then ill dry the whole car the proper way

Why worry? Who doesn't like a little rust falling on their freshly cleaned wheels and tires when the car is moved?

If you're really that worried about it, put a little IPA on a cloth and wipe them off. It'll clean the surface and evaporate away. Tbh, your unlikely to get enough dust from it to be an issue, and if you do it'll just wipe off.
