Hey auto geek! I am 18 years old and I live on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. I have a mobile auto detailing business here and do not have the confidence yet to really cut up a clients paint job. I am looking to expand my skills in buffing and cutting, as well as sanding/wet sanding.
I use a Makita rotary buffer and Meg's DA and I have practiced on my truck, parents vehicles, and scrap panels and hoods (but no wet/dry sanding). I have never burned through paint or improperly corrected the paint. I checked my results with proper lights and checked weeks later to make sure no holograms or marring was left behind. All my results actually came out perfectly besides some scratches that would have to be wet sanded.
I know the process of getting a paint job to look its best and have learned this by reading, and watching videos. However, everyone says there is nothing like hands-on training. I would love to be able to put a rotary to the paint and have complete confidence I know I am doing this perfectly.
I am going to be in North San Diego area starting March 5th and going to be there for at least a couple weeks. Here is where I am looking to work with a professional detailer and pick up a few tips and tricks and learn everything I can when it comes to paint correction.
I would be happy to work for free and help out where I can with the detail or even pay for the training I would be getting as long as it is at a reasonable price. Can anyone recommend a professional detailer who lives in San Diego area that I could contact for training?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! I thought I would post here before I look into class training either from Rightlook or The Detail Pros or any other recommendations you geeks may have. Mahalo and Aloha.
