What is the fineist grit sandpaper out there?

The other day/nite I caught Pawn Shop on the box and a gent who refinished a guitar said he sanded it down with 6000 grit paper. I've never heard of that 'fine' of paper, but nuttin' surprises me anymore.

Thanx for any information...

my dad used something like 6k for windows on airplanes. something weird like that. i remembered i showed him 3k and he said that was nothing lol

Thanx for the replies...

Now, where'd ya get it? Again just curious as a cat at a fish fry.

Thanx...

Oh yeah? I have some 50000 grit (it is made of chinchillas fur woven together and unicorn tears...) lol...

I have some 6k that is basically finer than copy paper... I don't recall where or for what I needed it but eh I will find a use sometime...

got my 8,000 from a local paint supply store. a company i used to work for required us to use it while prepping to blend clear coat. It looks and feels more like a vinyl rather than paper.

Thanx again for all the info.

Not that I need it...I'm gonna just go on a hunt for the super fine paper now.
