I have satin black painted rims that over the years have faded. What can I use to bring the dark color back as well being compatible with ceramic coating them after?? I just used Wolfgang ceramic coating on my truck and it looks awesome but one swipe on my rims did nothing for making the rims dark again.

I have used DP (before it changed to McKee's) paint prep on my matte black Method Racing wheels on my Tundra and on a set of Rockstars prior to using McKee's wheel coating. Works great at cleaning and evening out the color of the wheels.

I tried some cleaners but nothing has worked to bring back the black dark color.........I am tempted to try that Wipe New but hold back unless noone chimes in.

If the paint has faded, simply cleaning them won't make them darker. A paint prep/paint cleaner might even things out, as fly07sti mentioned.

What type of wheel cleaner have you been using? It might be too harsh and has actually faded the paint. I've had wheel cleaners make clear-coated alloy wheels turn cloudy, this might be a similar symptom.

Many coatings won't change the color that dramatically, no matter what type of paint or where it's applied. I've tried a couple coating on car paint with only *slight* darkening. When I applied Carpro CQuartz to my gun metal satin wheels there was no color change at all. I can tell they are well protected, but there was no change.

While it might be a longshot, check out this thread from Mike Phillips using a coating for matte surfaces. I think Dr. Beasley's also has something for matte/satin wheels.
