Scratch removal wet sanding and adding clearcoat.

I recently bought a 2003 Miata, titanium grey, and it has a few scratches in the trunk lid, that I have not been able to get out. The previous owner must have used it for storage to get so many scratches.
I removed the lighter scratches wet sanding them with 1500 and 2000, and the sanding marks with my PC polisher and UC. I have already sanded just about the entire trunk lid to get out scratches. I don’t want to go through the clearcoat wet sanding.
I was wondering if I could give it a few more coats of clearcoat and then wet sand again? At the same time I could fill in a couple of small deep scratches that went through the paint coat to the primer.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

you need to clear the whole panel to do it right. I spot cleared an area and got it pretty good but the surface will always show the spot where you cleared....it's just not even with the rest of the paint height wise...

I would clearcoat the whole panel. It's not that big and would be easy to do.

Would this be true for OEM factory finish?

We all know that factory OEM finish is the land of OP. Was thinking of topping up the OEM clear then wet sanding to get rid of the OP - just clear, no color coats
